Rob & Michele Reiner’s Relationship Timeline
GettyReiner met his future wife, Michele Singer, while filming what would become one of his most famous movies of all time: “When Harry Met Sally.” Michele was a photographer who actually caused Reiner to change the ending of the iconic romantic comedy, according to an interview he gave with AV Club.
Originally, Reiner struggled with the film’s conclusion and intended to show the characters walking away from each other at the end. However, in Reiner’s words, “I met the woman who became my wife during the making of the movie, and I changed the ending.”
“When Harry Met Sally” was released in 1989, the same year Reiner and Michele, who took his last name, tied the knot. They remained a couple until their untimely passing.

GettyReiner and his wife had three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Reiner also adopted his daughter Tracy during his previous marriage to actress Penny Marshall. The family would sometimes attend red carpet events together, such as the Emmy Awards Ceremony.

GettyReiner and his wife weren’t just a Hollywood power couple; they were also intent on giving back. In 1997, the two founded the “I Am Your Child Foundation,” which, in 2000, received a $1,000,000 grant from The Gates Foundation.
In 2004, they founded “Parents’ Action for Children,” also known as “The Reiner Foundation.” According to GuideStar, the organization aimed to “raise public awareness regarding the importance of early childhood development, and to provide families and caregivers of young children with the information and resources to promote healthy development and school readiness.”
Reiner was also a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. According to an X post from the Human Rights Campaign in 2016, Reiner vowed not to film in North Carolina until the state repealed what he called a “hateful law.” He and his wife also attended the Human Rights Campaign’s 2025 dinner.

GettyReiner and Michele also worked together on several films. Michele was a producer on “Shock and Awe,” which Reiner directed and starred in. She also produced Reiner’s final movie, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.”
Reiner and Michele had a beautiful marriage and will both be missed dearly.
