Tracy Reiner is sharing rare and heartbreaking details after the deaths of her father, Rob Reiner, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.

In a brief yet emotional statement, Tracy shared her shock and reflected on her family as tributes and questions continue to surround the tragic loss.

Tracy, 61, spoke to NBC News as she processed the sudden loss of her father and stepmother. “I came from the greatest family ever,” she said. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”

Rob adopted Tracy during his marriage to the late Penny Marshall. She also told the outlet that she had seen her father at a family gathering just one day before his death.

Tracy has, however, not made any public comment post her dad and stepmom’s tragic deaths.

Investigation Continues as Son Taken Into Custody

Rob and Michele’s son Nick Reiner, 32, is now in custody following questioning by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division. He is being held on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.

Multiple sources who spoke with family members told People that Nick killed Rob and Michele at their Los Angeles home. Sources also told the outlet that the couple was found by their daughter, Romy Reiner, on Sunday, December 14.

Nick has previously spoken openly about his struggles with addiction, which began in his teens and later led to a period of homelessness.

As per the LA Times, at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for medical aid at the family’s home, the department told People.

First responders found a man and a woman dead upon arrival.

Nick was later identified as a suspect and arrested at about 9:15 p.m., more than five hours after the bodies were discovered. Authorities subsequently charged him with murder in connection with his parents’ deaths.

Multiple sources told People magazine that Nick and his parents had attended a Christmas party at Conan O’Brien’s home the night before the alleged killings. The sources said Nick and Rob argued during the gathering.

Rob and Michele married in 1989 after meeting while Rob was directing “When Harry Met Sally.” They shared three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy.

Rob was an acclaimed director and actor whose career spanned decades. His films included “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand By Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men.” He first rose to fame as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the sitcom “All in the Family.”

His father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner, who died in 2020.

In a statement obtained by Variety, the Reiner family said, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
