The final film that Hollywood legend Rob Reiner directed has been put on hold after his tragic death on Sunday. The filmmaker and actor died on December 14 alongside his wife Michele Singer Reiner, leading to an outpouring of tributes from the world of entertainment, and his final directorial effort â âSpinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finaleâ â has now been delayed until a decision can be made.
âSpinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finaleâ Has Been Put on Hold
âSpinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finaleâ acts as the final directorial project from Reiner and is a follow-up concert film to âSpinal Tap II: The End Continues.â It was originally set to be released in 2026 in IMAX theaters and was intended to be the final screen release of the fictional band.
The film features Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer performing at the historic location in the United Kingdom, with other performers such as Eric Clapton and Shania Twain also taking part.
Independent film company Bleecker Street purchased the distribution rights to the project earlier this year, although the company had not set a definitive release date. According to a report from Variety, sources have told the outlet that plans have been put on hold for the time being until âthe best path forward is decided with those closest to Rob and his family.â
Winder River: Rising Is Reinerâs Other Major Posthumous Project
Outside of âSpinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale,â Reiner is also involved in another film that could be said to be his final movie. Like the concert film, âWind River: Risingâ currently has no release date but there are some details that have been confirmed, including the fact that Reiner serves as executive producer for the movie.
What we do know is that âWind River: Risingâ â which has also been listed as âWind River: The Next Chapterâ â is a sequel to the 2017 thriller âWind River.â The original starred Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen and was written and directed by âYellowstoneâ creator Taylor Sheridan.
The sequel has already completed filming, with the movie wrapping in 2023, but has been delayed several times due to unspecified legal issues. Directed by Kari Skogland and written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, âWind River: Risingâ features actors such as Martin Sensmeier, Gil Birmingham, Jason Clarke, and Scott Eastwood.
According to the official synopsis for the film, âTerror has escalated on the Wind River reservation as a series of ritualistic murders remain unsolved. The FBI, therefore, enlists the aid of Chip Hanson, a newly minted tracker for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, who becomes embroiled in a desperate and dangerous fight between the authorities, a vigilante and the Reservation he calls home.â
