Robert Pattinson’s ‘absurd’ new film trailer has everyone calling him a ‘little sexual freak’

Robert Pattinson has blown fans away once again with his ability to choose the most unexpected roles as he appears in the new sci-fi dystopian, Mickey 17.

Whether playing a sparkly vampire, a mysterious heron, or one of the most famous superheroes in the world – there’s very little the 38-year-old Hollywood star can’t do.

Despite the tough competition (did we mention his stint as a ‘vegetarian’ teenage bloodsucker?) his new character may just be his wildest yet as he plays a downtrodden spaceman who dies…. again, and again, and again. As the trailer aptly shows.

The movie – from acclaimed Parasite director Bong Joon-ho – also features a stacked cast including Beef’s Steven Yeun, Blink Twice actor Naomi Ackie, and Oscar-nominated star Mark Ruffalo, to name a few.

The film follows the titular Mickey Barnes, an expendable space colonist who must undertake the most dangerous tasks (aka suicide missions) – and have a new version of himself brought back to life each time.

But when multiple versions of him suddenly exist at the same time (namely Mickey 17 and 18), and immediately start clashing heads, all chaos breaks loose.

As the Oscar-winning filmmaker described at CinemaCon: ‘It’s a sci-fi movie, but it’s a human story.’

The absurd, strange, and slightly bonkers premise – so vividly brought to life by the actor’s jarring accent and full-hog commitment – already has fans in a chokehold with the film set to come out early next year.

‘Robert Pattinson playing a little freak. IN SPACE. I’m seated. The theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because it’s “not January yet” but I’m simply too seated,’ @kendallhosseini wrote on X.

‘Robert Pattinson’s commitment to putting himself in the most absurd sexual situations is to be commended,’ @hunseckerproxy added.

‘Oh f**k yeah Robert Pattinson’s playing a weird little guy again,’ @SoozUK said.

In particular, people are truly caught up in his new accent tailored for the role.

‘I would love to see all of Robert Pattinson’s characters in one movie with each of their distinct voices. His range is INSANE,’ @cappucappu94 wrote.

But ultimately, everyone is united in one opinion. That the Batman actor is going to smash this out of the park.

‘Bong Joon Ho knew that the only person that could ever match Robert Pattinson’s freak is Robert Pattinson,’ @jillianchilli posted.

‘Robert Pattinson once again proving he can be a game-changing actor is insane to me holy s**t,’ @jymwever shared.

The highly-anticipated movie has been met with severe delays and was originally meant to come out earlier this year before finally confirming the January 2025 release date.

The movie is based on the book by Edward Shaton.

British actor Naomi opened up about her observations of Robert’s process and what to expect from the movie in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

‘He’s a thinker; he thinks very deeply about the role and the script and the structure, and we got to know each other that way,’ she said about the Twilight actor.

‘It’s heightened emotions and tonally different than what I’ve done before, so I’m quite scared to see it and hoping I balanced it right. But it’s all an experiment, right?’ she added about Mickey 17.

Meanwhile, Bong chose Robert for the part because ‘he’s got this crazy thing in his eyes,’ according to Vulture.

Mickey 17 comes out in cinemas on January 31, 2025.
