Zelda Williams, daughter of the legendary actor Robin Williams, is receiving widespread support from the public after bravely speaking out about a frustrating occurrence involving her dad that she wishes would stop.
Zelda, 36, took to her Instagram Stories on October 6 to reveal that she’s been feeling unsettled by receiving AI videos featuring her father’s likeness. As fans know, Robin Williams died in 2014 after suffering from Lewy Body Dementia. Through the use of AI (artificial intelligence), many apps allow users to create artificially generated, and in some cases rather convincing, videos by uploading a photo of the person. Using these apps to create clips of deceased celebrities is a growing trend spreading across social media.
In her post, Zelda wrote, “Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad.” She called the practice “a waste of time and energy” before adding, “Believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want.” She also called it “maddening” to watch “the legacies of real people be condensed down” to a recreation that “vaguely looks and sounds like them.”
This is not the first time the “Don’t Look Up” actress has asked people to stop making AI videos using the image and voice of Robin Williams. People says she previously did so in 2023.

Fans Stand By Zelda Williams
In the discussion comments of the Reddit celebrity news forum called Fauxmoix, many users voiced their sympathy as well as support for Zelda’s sentiments.
One wrote, “Everyone’s grief journey is different, and some people will find comfort in it. Zelda wants strangers to stop making things with her father and then sharing it with her, which is absolutely understandable. People don’t consider that they did not know Robin Williams as a father, husband and close relative, only as an actor or comedian.”
Another said, “I’m glad she’s calling out how it devalues the person/artist/artwork/whatever the model steals from. Not every aspect of the human experience is meant to be sold!”
Robin Williams Previously Told the Cute Story Behind His Daughter’s Name
In a 2011 interview with Game News, the “Flubber” star revealed why he named his daughter Zelda. “Zelda. What a great name for a girl,” he declared, before his daughter cut in to share, “From what I’ve been told, they were playing Zelda when my mom was pregnant with me.”
Williams jumped in to say, “I bought one of the first Ninetendo systems and brought that home. It’s addicting. I was playing it for hours, and hours and hours.”
Zelda said she was laughed at for her name in school, but later learned to love it.
