Rochelle Humes has revealed that her 12-year-old daughter Alaia is being bullied.
The presenter, 36, has been married to JLS star Marvin Humes, 40, since 2012 and shares three children with him, Alaia, Valentina, eight, and son Blake, four.
In a recent interview, Rochelle spoke about her heartbreak as she dealt with her eldest daughter being bullied at school.
On her Ladies Who Launch podcast, the star spoke about her daughter’s difficulties as she goes into year eight.
‘It’s an awful thing. My eldest is 12 – it’s that tricky age when she’s going into the second year of secondary school, and I’ve really noticed the dynamics and the changes and how girls are to each other.
‘And I go, “Oh, my God, if I could shield her from anything in life.” It brings out this lioness in you.’
Rochelle added that it was ‘hard to watch’ and it has been a learning curve working out how to parent her child.
‘I wasn’t a victim of bullying, but my daughter is definitely going through a touch of that at the minute and it’s so difficult and so hard to watch, but also knowing how to parent through it.’
In June, Rochelle told Metro that she had moved away from music and was focusing on her podcast platform, which came out on January 1 this year.
‘I’m so passionate about connecting women in business, that’s why the podcast exists.’
‘It’s built a community really organically. And I know that’s such a buzzword now, but what I love is that it’s real. Women are arranging to meet up, sharing ideas and supporting each other.’
Humes rose to fame as a member of The Saturdays, a pop girl band which had success in the noughties. In the most recent decade, she has pivoted to presenting and television. She also manages My Little Coco, her award-winning children’s skincare and lifestyle line, which launched in 2020.
She explained that it can be a lot to juggle motherhood and her busy career, but she doesn’t believe the myth that there is a way to get a perfect balance.
‘Some weeks, I’m a great mum – I’ve hosted playdates, I’ve been to everything. But that probably means I’ve missed meetings and fallen behind on emails. Then the next week, I’ve smashed deadlines, but I haven’t made it to netball practice.’
She added: ‘You can have it all, but not all at the same time. Society sells us this version of balance that’s not really attainable. It’s okay to be stronger at different things at different times.’
