Hollywood is in mourning as legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have passed away as a result of an apparent homicide. Now, fellow legend Ron Howard is paying tribute to his colleague with a heartfelt social media post.

Howard took to his official X account on December 15 to react to the sad news. The “Apollo 13” director said, “#RIPRobReiner Our careers and lives intersected often over the decades from Rob writing the pilot script for Happy Days and then as we each shifted from acting careers into directing and producing.”
He then said of Reiner, “He proved to be a superlative filmmaker, a supportive colleague, and at all times a dedicated citizen. Rob will be missed on so many levels. My heart goes out to his family and his many close friends.”
Rob and Michele Reiner’s Passing Is Being Investigated
Reports surfaced on December 14 that two dead bodies had been found in Reiner’s Brentwood home. At the time, there was no confirmation of the identity of the two people. However, TMZ later confirmed that it was in fact the Reiners who had passed away.
Sources told the outlet that they had injuries that appeared to be from a knife. Audio from the crime scene shows police officers requesting backup at around 3:30 pm. It’s also important to note that there is reason to believe that the Hollywood legend and his wife died after being attacked by their son, Nick Reiner. However, this is still being investigated.
Notably, multiple sources have told PEOPLE that this is the case. The son is also being questioned for his role in the tragic situation.
The Family Has Released a Statement
Naturally, this is a difficult time for the Reiner family. They took the time to issue a brief statement to Variety about the tragic situation. It reads, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The Reiners are survived by their children, Nick, Jake, and Romy. He was also the adoptive father of Tracy Reiner, who was the daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall. It has been reported that Tracy was the person who found the bodies.
Regarding his career, Reiner is known for directing several classic films and for appearing on “All in the Family.” Some of his most notable are “When Harry Met Sally,” “The Princess Bride,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men.”
