Roseanne Barr is sharing a glimpse into her life with her new documentary âRoseanne Is America.â One of the highlights in the Highway 61 Entertainment-produced film, which premiered on Tuesday, June 10, is how she was able to reconnect with her daughter, Brandi Brown, whom she placed for adoption when she was 18.

Barr now has an estimated net worth of $70 million, Celebrity Net Worth reports. She has had an impressive career, and some of her more memorable works include the television sitcom âRoseanne.â But when Barr was 18, things were very different. Barr gave birth in May 1971, and in her documentary, she reflected on what happened, saying she was “shipped away to the Salvation Army Home for Unwed Mothers” in Denver, People reports.
She continued, “When I gave my daughter up for adoption, I said to her, ‘Iâll see you again when you’re 18 because Iâm not going to change my name, and Iâm going to be famous. Iâm going to have my own show named ‘Roseanne.’”
Barr later revealed that one of the reasons she was shipped away was because “Mom didnât want the neighbors to be ashamed of her.â And it would be decades before she could reconnect with her daughter.
How Did Roseanne Barr Reconnect With Her Daughter?
Celebrity gossip is often known for creating uncomfortable scenarios for entertainers, revealing secrets they would prefer to keep private, or fabricating untrue narratives. But for Barr, a report from the National Enquirer in 1989 helped her to find Brown.
“It all came out because when I got famous, the National Enquirer found my daughter by bribing someone in records in Colorado for my name, her name, and her adoptive parentsâ name,” Barr said in âRoseanne Is America.â “Am I upset about it? No. Iâm grateful.”
She has reflected on finding her daughter before and how she was initially upset with the publication for making her private details so public. “A tabloid called to tell me, ‘We found your daughter.’ I was stunned. They had gotten hold of the birth certificate of the baby girl I bore out of wedlock and gave up for adoption after nine days in Denver when I was 18,â she told People in October 1989.
She added, “I had left information allowing her to find me when she turned 21. I had even told my own kids about the adoption a year earlier because I knew she was 17 and might try to find me.â In addition to Brown, Barr went on to have four more children. Two daughters and a son with her first husband, Bill Pentland, and later another son with her ex-husband, Ben Thomas.
