Sally Field’s Kids & Family: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Sally Field

Sally Field has built an impressive Hollywood career spanning decades, but the Oscar-winning actress considers her greatest achievement to be raising her three sons. From screenwriting success to advocacy work, Field’s children have carved out their own meaningful paths while maintaining close bonds as a family.

The “Forrest Gump” star has often spoken about how motherhood shaped her both personally and professionally. Field became a young mother in her early twenties and has credited her children with motivating her career during challenging times. “I had two little kids to take care of,” she told People in 2023. “I didn’t have the luxury to throw my hands up and say, ‘Forget this whole acting thing — I’m gonna go and open up a boutique in Pasadena.’ My kids were fuel.”

1. She Has Three Sons from Two Different Marriages

Field is the proud mother of Peter Craig, 55, Eli Craig, 53, and Sam Greisman, 37. She welcomed her two eldest sons, Peter and Eli, during her first marriage to high school sweetheart Steven Craig, which lasted from 1968 to 1975. Her youngest son, Sam, arrived during her second marriage to Alan Greisman from 1984 to 1994.

“The three things I am most proud of in my life are Peter, Eli and Sam. My sons,” Field said during a 2012 Human Rights Campaign annual national dinner. “They are kind and loving, productive human beings. Each very different from the other.”

Field became a mother at just 23 years old, describing the experience as “an opportunity to almost re-parent” herself during a March 2024 podcast appearance on “Wiser Than Me With Julia Louis-Dreyfus.” “Certainly as time went on, I was mothering myself. But I was so young. I was just 23 [becoming a mother].”

He also co-wrote “The Batman” (2022), “The Town” (2010), and both “Hunger Games: Mockingjay” films.

Peter shares three children from his previous marriages—daughters Isabel and Sophie with ex-wife Amy Scattergood, and son Ogden with ex-wife Jennifer DeFrancisco. He married his third wife, Cristina Esposito, in 2023.

In addition to screenwriting, Peter is also a published novelist with books including “Hot Plastic” and “The Martini Shot.”

Sam, born December 2, 1987, is Field’s youngest son and works as a writer, producer, and director. He has been open about his close relationship with his mother and his identity as a gay man.

“I’ve always been a momma’s boy — painfully, occasionally ashamedly so,” Sam wrote in a 2023 People essay. “Perhaps too obsessed with her. Maybe it’s because I’m the youngest, by sixteen years. Maybe it’s because I was a shy little kid and my mom was a safe space; a hip I was attached to.”

Sam introduced his mother when she received the Ally for Equality Award at the 2012 Human Rights Campaign Gala. “When I came out, she didn’t bat an eye. In fact, she was overjoyed,” he shared. “Being gay was just one more thing she loved about me.”

Field has spoken proudly about watching her children become parents themselves. “My oldest son is this miraculously loving parent to his two little girls,” she told Oprah Winfrey in 2008, according to People. “To raise children who go on to be great parents is an accomplishment — that’s the Oscar moment in life.”
