The cardio queen herself, Dr. Cristina Yang, is setting the record straight. Could Grey Sloan Memorialâs original rockstar surgeon ever return? Eleven years after leaving “Greyâs Anatomy”, Sandra Oh is setting the record straight about whether sheâd ever return to her iconic role.

Speaking at The New York Times’ The Interview LIVE event on June 12, Oh opened up to The Interview co-host Lulu Garcia-Navarro about the possibility of reprising her beloved character.
âWhat I have noticed, this is 10 years out from leaving the show, is the deep appreciation that I have for the people who appreciate Cristina. It is that love that has made me go, âOh. The fans really, really, really want it,â and for the first time, that’s when I started opening up the idea,â Oh, 53, shared.
Why Sandra Oh Isnât Planning a Greyâs Anatomy Return
But as much as she loves both Cristina Yang and her fans, Oh says she wonât be scrubbing in at Grey Sloan any time soon.
âBut for me, I think to really be true to the people who enjoy your work, you have to be true to yourself. So at this point, I don’t think so.â
Cristina Yangâs Legacy Still Lives On
Oh, who earned five Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe for her role as Cristina Yang, hasnât returned to “Greyâs Anatomy” since her 2014 exit.
Over the years, sheâs remained on the fence about a possible return, though her character has never really left the story.

Cristina continues to be referenced through calls, texts, and mentions in the series. A body double even appeared at Derek Shepherdâs funeral to represent Yangâs unwavering support for her âperson,â Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).
Ohâs Career Since Greyâs Anatomy
Sandra Oh was part of Greyâs Anatomyâs original core cast, alongside Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, and more. Since leaving Seattle Grace, sheâs built a powerhouse career.

Oh has starred in “American Crime”, “The Chair”, “Invincible”, and “Killing Eve” â earning a Golden Globe for the latter. On the big screen, her credits include “Catfight”, “Raya” and the Last Dragon, “Turning Red”, Umma”, and “Quiz Lady”.
She starred as Dr. Cristina Yang on Greyâs Anatomy (2005â2014), earning five Emmy nominations. Later, she starred in and executive produced Killing Eve (2018â2022), earning her four more Emmy nominations.
“Greyâs Anatomy” â now the longest-running primetime medical drama â just wrapped its 21st season. The series returns for Season 22 this fall on ABC, with Cristina Yangâs influence still felt by fans and characters alike.
