Sara Cox broke down in tears during her Children In Need Marathon after reaching a new milestone.
The BBC Radio 2 DJ is currently on the third day of the 135-mile Great Northern Marathon Challenge, and covered 28 miles on Wednesday, travelling from Wolsingham to Richmond.
She broke down in tears today as it was announced that she had reached the £1million mark on her fundraising.
Radio host Scott Mills revealed live on air that she has raised an incredible £1,002,869 for charity so far, which sent Sara over the edge.
The presenter thanked listeners for their support saying through tears: ‘Oh my god. One million two thousand…we’ve done a million! Oh my god. That’s massive, thank you.’
‘You have completely broken me everybody who has donated, Thank you so much. Oh, gosh. I can’t believe it! That is so generous. Every fiver, every tenner. It all makes a massive difference.’
She then turned to her camera crew: ‘Can we have a cheer for all the amazing people donating please?’
‘Gosh, that’s a lot – over a million! It took me three times to pass my GCSE maths but even I know that.’
She also revealed that during this third day she was strugging: ‘If I’m honest, I’m really, really struggling this morning.’
Scott said on the radio: ‘I really feel for her. She needs all the help she can get.’
She revealed this morning on the radio that she had a poor night’s sleep and was awake from midnight until 3am. She revealed she had a dull ache in her legs and feet, but is persevering.
During the da,y she was supported by fans and even had a surprise serenade from Cockfield Primary School, who sang a version of Moana’s You’re Welcome, with lyrics modified as words of support.
She was also surprised by Gethin Jones on a tractor, who visited her to give her some much-needed support.
Sara’s challenge began on Monday and will see the radio star run across four counties, including Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
The radio star is running, jogging, and walking all the way to Pudsey, after beginning in Kielder Forest near Scotland.
