Sarah Jessica Parker Reveals the Sweet Reason She Turns Down Selfies With Fans

Who wouldn’t want a selfie with ‘Sex and the City’ Icon Sarah Jessica Parker? Well, fans could line up for hours to catch a glimpse of their beloved character Carrie Bradshaw! But for Sarah, she prefers real moments over rushed selfies — and she’s not shy about saying so.

In a new clip from The Howard Stern Show, published on YouTube on June 10, Parker opened up about why she often declines fans’ selfie requests. For Parker, it’s about genuine connection, not just taking a ‘selfie’.

Sarah Prefers A ‘Real’ Moment Over A Quick Photo

“So here’s what I’ve been trying to do, because I was just at the airport on Friday,” Parker shared. “A woman came up to me and she didn’t say hello, she just said, ‘Can I take your picture?’ And I said, ‘We didn’t even meet. You didn’t even introduce yourself. What’s your name?’”

After learning the fan’s name — Julie — Parker offered a more personal option. “I guarantee you it’s gonna be so much more meaningful,” she told her.

Later, she circled back to chat with Julie after settling her family. Howard Stern joked, “It’s like you’re a schoolteacher teaching everyone how to behave. It’s f—— annoying, yeah?”

Parker replied with honesty: “Here’s the thing: I kind of prefer it to somebody walking up to me with a camera already ready, asking as they’re clicking. I always am, like, startled by it. I much prefer to have a conversation — for someone to come up to me and say, ‘Maybe this isn’t your best time, my name is Veronica and I’m just here and I’m excited to see you.’”

Just like Sarah, Scarlett Johansson Has A Similar Policy

Sarah Jessica Parker isn’t alone in wanting to keep things personal when meeting fans. Earlier this year, Scarlett Johansson also spoke out about her long-standing rule of not taking photos with fans outside of professional events.

Scarlett Johansson has also been candid about setting boundaries when it comes to fan interactions. Speaking to InStyle, she explained, “It really offends a lot of people. It doesn’t mean I’m not appreciative, of course, that people are fans, or happy to see me. But I always say to people, ‘I’m not working.’ [And that means] I don’t want to be identified as being in this time and place with you. I’m doing my own thing.”

While she’s okay with taking photos during red carpet events or TV appearances, Johansson made it clear that everyday errands are off-limits. “Just not when I’m trying to go and buy my own s‑‑‑ at Duane Reade,” she said with a laugh.

She also opened up about needing mental space. “I like to be in my own thoughts that have nothing to do with what other people think of me,” she shared. “I don’t like being self-conscious.”

Just like anyone else, celebrities have the right to privacy and quiet moments.
