Sarah Jessica Park, And Just Like That

Many fans of “Sex and the City” were stunned when the announcement came that HBO was canceling “And Just Like That.” Now, the star of both shows, Sarah Jessica Parker, is sharing her thoughts on what it means for the show’s legacy.

Parker appeared on CBS Mornings on October 2. Regarding the cancellation of “And Just Like That,” she said, “It was a very tough decision.”

She continued, “I’m not sure what that decision means ’cause I could just be on hiatus. But it was a difficult decision.” Parker also mentioned Michael Patrick King, who was the executive producer and writer.

According to her, “I think Michael thought a lot about it. And I think it’s out of respect for this singular professional experience that you have to consider what you want to do and have you done it. And sometimes it’s best to gracefully walk away when things feel really right and energetic. Instead of squeezing and exploiting people’s generosity and hospitality.”

‘And Just Like That’ Was Cancelled in August

“And Just Like That” premiered on HBO Max in 2021. It saw Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis reprise their roles from the iconic “Sex and the City” more than 15 years later. Notably absent from the reboot was Kim Cattrall.

Deadline reported on August 1 that the spin-off series had been canceled. King said in a statement, “And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end. While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

He continued, “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”

The statement then said, “[Parker] and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

Parker and the ‘AJLT’ Cast Remain Busy

While “And Just Like That” has ended, there is always the possibility that the beloved characters could return in the future. In the meantime, Parker, Nixon, and Davis have quite a bit going on. Parker works with the American Library Association and has a publishing imprint, SJP Lit.

Additionally, according to Deadline, a third “Hocus Pocus” film is in development. Regarding Nixon, she is part of the cast of “The Gilded Age,” which will return for a fourth season. Davis is said to be involved in an upcoming series, “Deeds.”
