Hollywood has lost several actors over the last few years. Unfortunately, “Charmed” star Shannen Doherty was among them as she passed away in 2024. Now, a year after her death, Sarah Michelle Gellar has posted a heartbreaking tribute to her co-star.Â
Sarah Michelle Gellar took to her Instagram on July 13 to pay tribute to Shannen Doherty. She did so by posting a photo montage that included the song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star used a broken heart emoji for the caption.Â
Of course, this tribute to Shannen Doherty came days after Sarah Michelle Gellar had to say goodbye to Julian McMahon, who was also on “Charmed.” However, his tenure on the show came after Shannen’s departure.Â
Shannen Doherty Sassed Away In July of 2024
According to PEOPLE, Shannen Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. At that time, the actress underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. She had gone into remission in 2017, but the cancer returned by 2019.Â
Shannen said at the time, “When you ask yourself, âWhy me? Why did I get cancer?â and then âWhy did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?’ That leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life.” She also spoke openly about wanting to help raise both funds and awareness for cancer research.Â
From there, Shannen Doherty then shared in June of 2023 that the cancer had spread to her brain. Despite this, she remained hopeful due to the chance of new medications that could help treat the cancer.Â
However, more than a year later, she passed away on July 13. This came after she shared in January of that year that she was undergoing a new treatment. She was 53 years old. Of course, many of her Hollywood friends posted kind messages about Shannen Doherty upon learning of her passing.Â
Sarah Michelle Gellar Also Posted When Shannen Passed
Shannen Doherty was never on a show with Sarah Michelle Gellar, but the two developed a strong bond over the years. Sarah took to Instagram two days after Shannen passed away to post a heartfelt tribute.
Sarah said at the time, “How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship? I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love. Thank you, for all your kind words and support. I love all the messages about how @theshando was important to you. So letâs honor her.”
From there, Sarah Michelle Gellar went on to discuss Shannen Doherty’s love for dogs and to encourage others to support animal charities.Â
