Scarlett Johansson Weighs in on Whether Her Daughter Can Watch the New ‘Jurassic Park’ Film

Every person has a different threshold for fear. Some of us laugh at horror movies, while others can’t even watch a “Ghostbusters” film without jumping.

When it comes to films like the “Jurassic Park” franchise, it’s hit or miss. Maybe you love dinosaurs so much that there’s nothing about them that could terrify you. Or perhaps just the thought of a sharp-toothed, enormous, reptile-like creature chasing you makes your heart beat faster.

Scarlett Johansson is hinting that her daughter falls into the former category. She revealed to Erin Lim Rhodes at the New York premiere of “Jurassic World: Rebirth” that the new film is one she’d let her 10-year-old watch.

Scarlett Johansson Says New ‘Jurassic World’ is ‘Scary’ But ‘Appropriate’ for Families

“When I saw the first “Jurassic Park” movie I was ten years old in the theater and part of the impression it left on me was the jump scares, the laughs, but the terrors for sure,” Johansson told E! News. “That’s part of what’s so great about “Jurassic.” It’s thrilling in all ways: visually and emotionally.”

“I’ve been talking to some other “Jurassic” fans and they say this is the scariest one,” she continued. “But it’s so — I would let my daughter see it. It’s still appropriate for the family. You just gotta watch it through the crack in your fingers.”

While joking that Rose may end up sleeping in her bed for a couple of nights after seeing it, Johansson chuckled and said, “It’s worth it.”

Scarlett Johansson Wants to Preserve Kids’ Anonymity as Long as Possible

Johansson shares 10-year-old daughter Rose with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, and three-year-old Cosmo with husband Colin Jost. The “Black Widow” actress has always been reluctant to talk about her family, but she and Jost have revealed a few details more recently.

In September 2024, the “Saturday Night Live” star told E! News about the sibling dynamic. “The two of them spent a lot of time together this summer, which was nice for them,” Jost said. “She’s a very nice, loving sister.”

Johansson has been in the public eye since starring in “North” at the age of eight. As one of the most recognizable faces in the world, she has been vocal about her decision to keep her children’s lives private.

“The thing about being a public figure is that the idea of being recognizable and celebrated feels fun, but then you can never stuff it back in the bottle,” she told InStyle. “The reality of it is, there’s a massive loss to that, you know? So I think preserving that for as long as possible until it’s someone’s choice, that’s the choice I make as far as my kids go.”
