Sean Astin Pens Touching Tribute to Rob Reiner

Actor Sean Astin penned a touching tribute to the late director Rob Reiner.

Astin released the statement through SAG-AFTRA as he is currently the president.

“Rob Reiner is one of the most significant figures in the history of film and television,” the lengthy statement began. “The impact he made on American culture simply can’t be overstated.”

The 54-year-old added how much Reiner meant to the entertainment community.

“Tributes will pour in and the impossibly long list of genre defining films and indelible performances will play in our minds and hearts. Rob Reiner was a member of our union for nearly 60 years,” he added.

“We send love and warmth to Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s families, friends and colleagues. Our entertainment community and audiences around the world will mourn deeply,” the statement added.

The “Goonies” star also mentioned what Reiner meant to him.

“On a personal note, so many of Mr. Reiner’s films and performances made me think, made me emotional and especially they made me laugh really hard. That’s how I will remember him,” he concluded.

Reiner, whose career spanned more than five decades, left an indelible mark on television, film and political activism, earning admiration from colleagues across generations.

Best known to early audiences as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom “All in the Family,” Reiner later became one of the most influential directors of his era.

His filmography includes enduring classics such as “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…” “and A Few Good Men.”

Together, those projects showcased Reiner’s rare ability to move effortlessly between comedy, drama and satire.

Following news of his passing, actors, directors and public figures shared heartfelt messages honoring both his creative brilliance and his generosity behind the scenes. 


What We Know About the Passing of Reiner & His Wife

On Sunday, December 14, it was announced that Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found dead in the Brentwood, California, home.

The two were tragically found by their daughter Romy. 

The couple shared three children together, and their son Nick, was taken into police custody on Monday, December 15 and being held on $4 million bail.

In addition to his three children, Rob also adopted daughter Tracy during his first marriage to Penny Marshall.
