Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Once Revealed the ‘Craziest’ Party He Threw

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ parties have been the subject of conversation since his arrest in 2024. The events were lavish and celebrity-filled, and reportedly devolved into lengthy sex parties in the early hours of the morning. Combs spoke about the events over the years, and once said his “craziest” party happened early in his career.

In 1996, Combs worked with the Notorious B.I.G. on the song “Hypnotize.” He said the night they made the song, he threw one of his wildest parties.

“The night we made ‘Hypnotize,’ which I don’t remember a lot of,” he told <a href=”https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/06/magazine/diddy-doesnt-like-to-get-hot.html?searchResultPosition=7″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The New York Times in 2017. “That was the craziest night. Imagine hearing ‘Hypnotize’ for the first time after, like, two bottles of Cristal. That was so good!”

The night they shot the music video for “Hypnotize” was also a bit of a party. Combs admitted that he and Biggie tried ecstasy for the first time at the shoot.

“I mean, it was an experience, you know what I’m saying?” he said on Twitter Spaces. “Ayo, Biggie’s 50. Check this out, we have nothing to hide. That was a long time ago… it was the first time. It was just a little nibble, it was all right. It was a little nibble. But we was in extra high, high spirits. Yeah, this breaking news and s***. F*** it. On his 50th birthday, I wanna let y’all know that.”

While Combs didn’t go into much depth about what happened on the night they recorded “Hypnotize,” he has discussed his parties in more detail over the years. In 1999, not long after they recorded “Hypnotize,” Combs even predicted that his parties would get him in trouble someday.

“You’re gonna hear about my parties, they’re gonna be shuttin’ ’em down,” he told Entertainment Tonight (via <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.eonline.com/news/1407692/sean-diddy-combs-predicts-his-arrest-in-haunting-interview-from-1999″ rel=”noreferrer noopener”>E! News). “They’re gonna probably be arresting me, doing all types of crazy things just ‘cause we wanna have a good time.”

Despite this, he said he had no intention of stopping the events.

“They won’t even give me a permit for the parties, man,” he said. “They don’t want me to throw the parties no more. But we ain’t gonna stop, we gonna keep on having fun. Bringing people together for all walks of life.”

Randy Alpert recalled hearing the song for the first time

“Hypnotize” samples Herb Alpert’s 1979 song “Rise.” Albert’s nephew, Randy, wrote the song, and often fielded requests from other artists who wanted to sample it. He turned down every request until he heard a tape of “Hypnotize.”

“I put that thing in, I went into the bathroom, I cranked the system, and I remember when that thing came on… that was it, ‘I’m done.’ It’s great,” he told <a href=”https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/notorious-big-hypnotize-sample-randy-badazz-herb-alpert-rise-7709057/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Billboard. “And again, the same thing that I did when I had the record of ‘Rise’ — I played that cassette over and over. I must’ve played it for half an hour, 45 minutes. I said, ‘That’s a f***ing hit record.’”

He held onto the early recording of the song.

“I still have this cassette, where Biggie is singing the ‘Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, can’t you see,’ before they put the girl [Pamela Long of Total] on it,” he said. “Because they wanted to clear the sample on it before they went to the next level. And right away, I called and said, ‘This is great. This is a go.’”
