Demi Engemann, star of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” has been a standout on the Hulu reality series. Her vibrant personality and intriguing personal life as a wife and mother have captivated audiences. However, fans may not know that her husband, Bret Engemann, has his connections to other TV franchises. Even though he doesn’t get a ton of screen time on “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” he actually has some serious reality TV roots.Â
‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Stars Have a Love Story With a Twist
Demi and Bret Engemann’s romance is anything but conventional. There is a 16-year age gap between the two, and they first crossed paths through a family friend when Demi was just a child.
âI knew him through a family friend growing up, but he was so much older than me,â Demi shared in a February 2023 TikTok video.
At the time, Bret was married to his first wife and starting a family. Demi, then a young girl, harbored an âinnocent little girl crushâ on the Brigham Young University football quarterback.
Their paths didnât fully align until 2020, when they were both navigating personal transitions. Demi was going through a divorce from her ex-husband Blake Corbin, while Bret’s brief second marriage came to an end.
Their eventual romance led to an engagement and wedding in April 2021. The couple tied the knot just four days after getting engaged.
Bret Engemann’s Reality TV Connections Through Marriage
Bretâs reality TV ties extend beyond “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” His first wife, Angie Harrington, appeared as a friend on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” for two seasons. Bret met Harrington in college and they share two sons, Cole and Rome.
The former couple had long been divorced by the time Harrington joined the Bravo series. Interestingly, Demi herself auditioned for RHOSLC and has connections to some cast members,
âWe do cross paths and itâs not surprising because Utah is very small and especially the influencer world and community here is very tight-knit,” Demi told Decider.
Bretâs family also has another high-profile link: his sister, Shawn King, was married to the late CNN host Larry King, adding another layer of intrigue to his background.
‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Star Told Her Husband To Audition for ‘The Bachelorette’
When Demi was still married to Corbin, she says that she and her then-husband crossed paths with Bret at the gym. He had just split from his second wife, so Demi suggested that he go on “The Bachelorette.” Then, she and Corbin took the situation into their own hands.
“We anonymously submit him to The Bachelorette,” Demi admitted in a TikTok video. “A few days later, he gets a call that they want to meet him and potentially cast him for Clare [Crawley]’s season of The Bachelorette.”
Bret took their advice and was cast on the dating show, but he was sent home from filming in March 2020 because of the pandemic. Instead of returning to “The Bachelorette” when filming resumed, Bret and Demi reconnected after her divorce from Corbin and started dating. Ten months later, they got engaged and tied the knot in April 2021.
