- Sir David Jason is reportedly planning a 45th anniversary reunion special for Only Fools And Horses
- The two-part special is expected to include unseen footage and feature cast members reminiscing about the iconic sitcom
- This special could also pay tribute to late cast members and celebrate the show’s lasting legacy
This time next year, we might not be millionaires, but Only Fools And Horses fans could be in for a real treat.
Sir David Jason, who played Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in the beloved sitcom, is reportedly set to front a two-part reunion for the legendary show’s 45th anniversary in 2026.
The programmes will seemingly feature never before seen footage, and there’s even a hope Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney Trotter) could take part.
Lovely jubbly!
A source told The Sun: ‘David is well aware of Only Fools’ huge fanbase, so appreciates how much these documentaries will be lapped up.
‘He’s looking forward to reminiscing about old times, as well as giving away secrets about the show.’
The insider admitted getting Nicholas to sign on ‘would be a major coup’, if he was ”up for taking part’ in the specials.
He hasn’t really factored into past reunions or the convention circuit, and in recent years you’ve been more likely to see him alongside Frasier than Del Boy.
However, it’s said discussions are underway for the two-part show, which is set to air on Gold next year.
The original sitcom originally aired for seven series from 1981 to 1991, along with 16 Christmas specials over the years, before the show officially came to an end in 2003.
It followed the trials and tribulations of brothers Del Boy and Rodney, and their various money-making schemes.
Sir David previously admitted the role of Del Boy was something of a ‘ghost’ on his shoulder, albeit one that’s afforded him a great career.
‘My biggest reward has been having such a fulfilling career for so many years,’ he added to Radio Times last year.
‘That’s what drove Derek Trotter too; when he became a millionaire he didn’t have the same chase. He realised then that riches can be counted in so many ways. Although it does help to have a few ponies in the bank.’
Next year’s documentary could also serve as a tribute to the sitcom’s late cast members, including Patrick Murray, who played Rodney’s best mate Mickey Pearce and died earlier this year from lung cancer.
Former castmate John Challis, known for his role as car dealer Boycie, died form cancer in 2021.
