Sky News correspondent Katie Spencer left viewers totally surprised after swearing during a TV news segment.

The arts and entertainment broadcaster was reporting on David Walliams being dropped by his publisher just after seven in the morning when the chaotic slip-up occurred.

Discussing the comedian’s writing career, she said: ‘Finding fame in Little Britain in the 00s, he has gone on to turn his unique brand of humour towards making children laugh to great success.

‘He first published his very first book with HarperCollins back in 2008, The Boy in the Dress. He’s gone on to publish a further… more than 40…’

Stumbling over her words, she abandoned the sentence and exclaimed: ‘Oh f**k it, I’d better start again. Sorry, do not ever air me saying the F word.’

She then started the script from the very beginning, as the cameras quickly cut off and returned to the live studio for Mornings with Jones and Melbourne.

Here, presenter Kamali Melbourne told audiences: ‘Apologies if you heard any bad language there, we’ll check that out,’ as he shared a confused look with his co-host Anna Jones.

He then turned to sports commentator Jacquie Beltrao and said: ‘But Jacquie’s joined us. No bad language Jaqs,’ to which Jacquie laughed: ‘No bad language from me.’

Metro understands the clip was aired in error and has now been taken out of circulation by Sky.

Since airing, viewers have been delighted by the unintentional error, with X user Josh Currie calling it ‘wild scenes’ and TikTok user Tori joking: ‘I had to rewind it, thought I was hearing things.’

‘I dropped my coffee, it was so funny,’ Florence Love quipped, while Willoughby commented it was ‘the most British thing I’ve seen today.’

UK audiences are no strangers to hearing broadcasters swear on live TV from time to time.

Last month, Tory MP Robert Jenrick had a fiery exchange on Good Morning Britain with Kate Garraway, after calling her line of questioning ‘total bulls**t’ and pre-emptively apologising to viewers.

Elsewhere, I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked host Joel Dommett was driven to exclaim ‘f**king hell’ after a giant critter landed on his arm at the beginning of an episode, and he too promptly said sorry to listeners for his language.

Metro has reached out to Sky and Katie Spencer for comment.
