After several price hikes, Sony has discounted both models of the PS5 console – but the deal won’t last for long.

Sony might have a reputation for increasing prices during the PlayStation 5 generation, but it has also regularly offered temporary discounts on the console too.

As such, the company has now reduced the price of the PlayStation 5 standard and Digital Edition for a limited time as part of the current autumn sale, months after it bumped up the cost of the latter by £40.

In this new sale, Sony has reduced the price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition by £90, from £429.99 to £339.99. So even if you consider the price has gone up by £70 over the past three years, you’re still saving £20 from the original cost.

There is a £45 discount on the standard PlayStation 5 Slim console with a disc drive too, which is now £434.99. You can pick up either model with an extra DualSense controller as well, with the same £90 and £45 discounts, respectively.

This sale is only available through PlayStation Direct and runs until October 1, 2025, so you have less than two weeks to take advantage of it.

Sony has never given any explanation for why the prices of the PlayStation 5 console have kept going up, which is not how things have worked in any other generation.

However, it’s believed to be related to Trump’s tariffs, that make it more expensive for foreign companies to import into the US. Rather than increase the price by a large amount, but only in the US, Sony, like many companies, has seemingly opted to increase it by a smaller amount everywhere.

If you haven’t yet invested into a PlayStation 5, it’s a pretty good time to do so. The console’s next big exclusive, Ghost Of Yōtei, is just around the corner on October 2, and you can catch up with the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Returnal, and Astro Bot.

As for what’s ahead, we know about Naughty Dog’s next game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, although it’s unclear when it will be released. However, Insomniac’s Wolverine is rumoured for next year, along with Saros from Housemarque.

A Sony State Of Play presentation is rumoured to take place next week, which might show the long rumoured God Of War spin-off, or another glimpse at Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

As for third-party titles, Resident Evil Requiem is due in February, while 007 First Light from Hitman developer IO Interactive is slated for March 27, 2026.
