“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner is opening up about her concern for child actors in the spotlight. Turner, who was just 15 years old when “GoT” premiered in 2011, has some helpful advice for the young stars of the upcoming “Harry Potter” series.
âI look at the kids who are about to be in the new ‘Harry Potter’ and I just want to give them a hug and say, âLook, itâs going to be okay but donât go anywhere near [social media],ââ the actor shared with Flaunt.
She continued, âStay friends with your home friends, keep living at home with your family, make sure your parents are your chaperonesâitâs so important to have that grounding adjacent to the big, crazy stuff that you do.”
Turner Was Seriously Affected by Social Media

The reason Turner is so passionate about wanting young people to avoid social media is due to her own negative experiences. “It had such a profound impact on my mental health, like more than I could tell you,â she revealed. âIt almost destroyed me on numerous occasions.âÂ
Turner explained that she began to struggle with anxiety, depression, and disordered eating once she became famous, but with the help of therapy she was able to pull through her dark times.
“I have these moments all the time where I get overwhelmed and anxious and depressed, and I pick up the phone to my friends, and I can get over it in about 20 minutes,” she shared on “The Run-Through With Vogue” podcast last year.
According to Turner, life was simpler before she became fodder for social media. âI think social media was just really becoming a big thing after I started on ‘Game of Thrones’ so I got a couple of years of peace and quiet and then I had to adjust,” she told Flaunt.
Turner Wants Her Own Children to Steer Clear of the Spotlight

Turner, who shares two children with ex-husband Joe Jonas, is an especially protective mom. When asked how she’d feel about her daughters Willa, 5, and Delphine, 3, eventually becoming actors themselves, she didn’t hesitate to share her true feelings.
âOh God, theyâre not acting!â she said. âNot until theyâre at least 25!â
For now, Turner is still working hard to keep her own internet critics at bay. On August 4 the actor posted a series of pics on Instagram that featured her having a blast at an Oasis concert, but one fan chimed in to say, âI think she has forgotten that she has two kids.â
Turner clapped back with the perfect response. âSoâ¦Get thisâ¦Thereâs this crazy thing called shared custody. Maybe, just maybe, they were with their dad that day,” she wrote.
