‘Sopranos’ Star Undergoes Emergency Surgery – ‘Got Lucky’

Steven Van Zandt, longtime guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and beloved Sopranos star, revealed this week that he underwent emergency surgery for appendicitis while touring in Europe.

The 73-year-old musician said he experienced sudden stomach pain while in Spain and was quickly hospitalized.

“Got a sharp pain in my stomach, thought it was food poisoning, turned out to be appendicitis. Got lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian,” Van Zandt shared in an Instagram post on June 23.


The Surgery Was a Success — and Van Zandt Hopes to Rejoin the Band Soon

Thankfully, the procedure went well, and Van Zandt is already eager to return to the stage.

“Operation was a complete success, and I’m hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan. Thank you all for all the good vibes. See you soon,” he wrote.


Fans Rally Around Van Zandt With Messages of Support

Van Zandt’s post was quickly flooded with well wishes from concerned fans: “You got this!!! Take it easy. But it’s a pretty quick turnaround. Just do NOT rush it. Listen to your body,” one person commented.

“Take your time and heal. We know you are a powerhouse, but please don’t jump back up on stage yet. We love you,” another fan wrote. “Get well soon, you’re worth waiting for. Your health is more important,” read another message. “Get well soon. All the best to you,” added one more fan.


No Official Word Yet on a Replacement

Van Zandt, who joined the E Street Band in 1975 and has played guitar and mandolin for decades, is also beloved for his role as Silvio Dante on “The Sopranos”.

Currently, Bruce Springsteen’s European tour continues. The singer performed in Germany on June 27 and will head to Milan for shows on June 30 and July 3. So far, there has been no official word on whether Van Zandt will be replaced for those dates or how long his recovery will take.

One fan wrote, “I’m lobbying that you play the June 30 show!” Another added, “You got this!!! Take it easy. But it’s a pretty quick turnaround. Just do NOT rush it.”


Will Van Zandt Return for Milan Shows?

Though Van Zandt is taking time to recover, he remains hopeful about rejoining the band in Milan.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether he makes it back on stage for those upcoming shows — but one thing’s for sure: the outpouring of love and support from his followers has been unwavering.

No matter when he returns, his place in the E Street Band — and fans’ hearts — is secure.
