‘Star Trek’ Actor Peacefully Passes Away – He Will Be Missed

Actor Tom Troupe passed away on Sunday, July 20. He was 97.

His nephew, Mark Cocanougher, confirmed the news in an Instagram post.

“My uncle, Tom Troupe, died peacefully at home this morning,” he wrote. “He had a lovely, full life, and an equally graceful departure. His dear son, Christopher Troupe, was here all day yesterday, and that was such a source of peace for them and for me.”

He continued, “I know that Tom and my aunt, Carole Cook, touched many lives, and I’m grateful for any positive impact they have had among so many friends and fans through their work and generous spirit.”

Variety reported it was from natural causes, and he passed away in Beverly Hills, California.

Donations can be made in his memory to Entertainment Community Fund or the Pasadena Humane Society, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Survivors include his son, Christopher, daughter-in-law Becky, granddaughter Ashley and a few nieces and nephews. His wife, actress Carol Cook, passed away in 2023.


Tributes Pour In

Friends and fans took to social media to share their condolences about the sad news.

“The profound passing of an era in so many ways,” one user wrote. “I know you brought him and your aunt so much joy, comfort, and peace. May their souls be enjoying a good laugh and a cocktail! And you, too!”

Others praised Cocanougher for his post, as one added, “Beautifully written testament to an undoubtedly wonderful man. Best.”

Another wrote, “Hugs to the whole family Mark. Tom was such a lovely man and you’ve been an amazing nephew.”

One user mentioned how she can still hear his voice. “I can still hear his voice and I loved that he would always call me by my first and middle name. Thank you Mark for being so incredible in taking care of our family. Love you beyond word.”


Troupe Had A Lengthy Career

The veteran actor was known for many roles over the course of his career. He was also a stage actor in addition to television.

Troupe was best known for roles in “Star Trek,” “Murder, She Wrote” and “Cheers.” However, he also had roles in “Mission: Impossible,” “The Wild, Wild West,” “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” “Cagney & Lacey,” “CHiPs,” “Knots Landing,” “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” and “The Fugitive.”

He also was in a few films including “The Big Fisherman,” “The Devil’s Brigade,” “Kelly’s Heroes,” “Summer School” and “My Own Private Idaho.”

Troupe made his Broadway debut in the 1957 production of “The Diary of Ann Frank.”

Before his career in entertainment, Troupe served in the Korean War and was awarded a Bronze Star, according to CBS News.
