‘Superman’ Continues to Break Box Office Records

Superman 2025 cast

For many, “Superman” was one of the most anticipated films of 2025. This status is demonstrated by how well James Gunn’s latest movie performed at the US and international box office. Now, amid strong movie reviews from critics and audiences alike, “Superman” has hit yet another milestone.

The Film Updates account on X shared on July 16 that “Superman” has set a new box office record for 2025. According to the account, “James Gunn’s ‘SUPERMAN’ achieved the highest Tuesday box office of 2025 domestically with $17.1M.” This figure is up almost $5 million from the previous day’s total.

The 2025 Version of ‘Superman’ Opened At Number One

According to Box Office Mojo, “Superman” had one of the biggest openings of 2025. The movie premiered in theaters on July 11th and grossed $125,021,735 at the US box office. It played on 4,135 screens, which translates to a per-theatre average of $30,235.

Of course, many film buffs visit movie theaters during the week. However, traffic isn’t nearly as high as it is on the weekend. Still, James Gunn’s “Superman” brought in another $12,901,628 on July 14. Now, with the movie’s record-breaking Tuesday box office, it appears to have considerable interest beyond its opening weekend.

The movie will have some steep competition in the coming weeks. “I Know What You Did Last Summer” comes out on July 18th, but horror offerings don’t often beat up superhero films. The problem “Superman” may face is that “The Fantastic Four: The First Steps” will be released on July 24th.

James Gunn’s New Movie Has Also Inspired Dog Adoption Searches

People who have already seen “Superman” know that the titular character has a canine companion. The dog’s name is Krypto, and he belongs to Superman’s sister, Supergirl. Krypto is in the film quite a bit and gets the superhero out of a few notable situations.

According to The Wrap, since the film’s premiere, searches for dog adoptions have increased by about 513 percent. That’s not all. Searches by people looking for rescue dogs are also up by 163 percent. It’s also worth noting that James Gunn’s dog, Ozu, is actually a rescue pet, a fact he had been open about while promoting “Superman” in 2025.

Regarding the “Superman” movie itself, reviews are still strong. It currently sits at an 83 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The star of the film, David Corenswet, has already signed on for a sequel.
