‘Superman’ Star Honors Terence Stamp: ‘He Was Beyond Gorgeous and Talented’

The news of Terence Stamp’s death was announced on Sunday, August 17. He was 87.

Stamp’s family made a heartfelt statement sharing the news of his passing and asking for privacy. “He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come,” the statement reads, Reuters reports. “We ask for privacy at this sad time.”

Stamp was a prolific actor, with work in “Far From the Madding Crowd,” “Superman,” and “Queen of the Desert,” and his career had an impact on many people. This includes his loyal fans, as well as the celebrities who had the opportunity to work with him, and Sarah Douglas was one of those people.

The pair appeared in the iconic 1978 film, “Superman.” Stamp played the role of villain, General Zod, while Douglas was cast as Ursa. Stamp and Douglas reprised their roles again two years later in the 1980 film, “Superman II.”

When the news broke of Stamp’s death, Douglas posted an old photo of them together on Instagram. In the caption, she shared her thoughts with a beautiful tribute. “So saddened to learn that Terence has left us,” she began. “He was beyond gorgeous and talented, and I learnt so very much from him. What a start to my career to have spent so many months in his company.”

She ended her message by sending her love. “My love and heartfelt condolences to all who cared for him. What a loss.”

“I remember what scary villains you played in ‘Superman II’ and so nice to see what lovely and kind people you are offscreen,” another fan shared. “My Dad said how much he loved the film ‘The Collector’ Terrance Stamp starred in when he was a young man.”
