The iconic actor Terence Stamp, whose career spanned more than six decades, has died at 87. The Oscar-nominated actor‘s family confirmed the news to Reuters on Sunday, August 17.

“He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come,” his family said in a statement. “We ask for privacy at this sad time.”

Early Life in East London

Born in 1938 in Londonâs East End, Stamp grew up during the Blitz while his father served in the Merchant Navy. His childhood struggles further shaped the man he would become.

In 1998, Stamp met Australian pharmacy student Elizabeth OâRourke in Sydney. The couple married on New Yearâs Eve in 2002, when he was 64 and she was 29. Their marriage lasted six years before ending in divorce in 2008.
