Sydney Sweeney takes 17 seconds to coyly respond to Bond Girl rumours

Sydney Sweeney has responded suspiciously to speculation that she could be the next Bond Girl.

While we still don’t have our next 007 after Daniel Craig stepped down from the role following 2021’s No Time To Die (NTTD), rumours are heating up.

Bookie favourite Aaron Taylor-Johnson suspiciously partnered with Bond’s prefered watch brand Omega, before giving a tight-lipped, smirking response when quizzed about his next role on the red carpet.

Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner has been tipped to be the next Bond Girl, taking over after Léa Seydoux’s two outings as Madeleine Swann in Spectre (2015) and Craig’s last hurrah, NTTD.

Now, 28-year-old White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney’s name is firmly in the ring for the next Bond Gidl, after a pretty coy response when asked whether she would take up the part in a new interview with Variety.

When asked whether there’s any truth to the rumours, Sydney ‘unravels’ according to the publication, while remaining typically stoic on other questions.

‘I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumours, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,’ she finally said.

The Euphoria star then ‘regained her composure’ and answered that she would be interested, but it ‘depends on the script’.

‘I think I’d have more fun as James Bond,’ she added, perhaps nodding to the historic writing – or lack of – when it comes to Bond Girls in scripts, who are at best intelligent objects of love, and at worst beautiful, disposable bodies.

It was recently reported that Amazon gained creative control of 007 for just $20 million (£16.4 million), taking over from long-time Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

While Wilson and Broccoli also remain co-owners of the Bond intellectual property under the joint venture, creative control of the franchise is now firmly in Amazon’s hands for the first time.

Now Variety report Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is pushing for Sydney – who attended his recent wedding – to be the next Bond Girl.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will write the script for the next movie, with Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve posed to direct.

The film will be produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman via Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films.

Sweeney, who was launched to a new level of fame playing Cassie in teen drama Euphoria, also spoke of the pressures of the film industry and said she was told to ‘fix’ her face and get botox aged 16.

The US actress, who has starred in films including Anyone But You (2023) and Madame Webb (2024), said: ‘I have very strong eyebrow muscles, and I had someone tell me to fix my face or else I’m not going to make it. I should get Botox. I was 16!

‘Or I’m in a casting and I’m reading my scene and the casting director is eating a bag of chips, and I’m like, “You’re not paying attention at all”.’

Discussing the prospect of cosmetic surgery, she said: ‘I’ve never gotten anything done. I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully.

‘It’s really funny. I’ll see things online like “comparison pictures”. I’m like, 2I’m 12 in that photo. Of course I’m going to look different. I have makeup on now and I’m 15 years older”.’

She added: ‘Being an actress, it’s a lot harder to stand in the room and demand your worth and for people to look at you and value you.

‘I have to remind myself like, “Hey, Syd, you’re actually powerful. Stand up a little taller.”’
