Jennifer Lawrence appeared on The Graham Norton Show last night, but there was one answer that viewers at home didn’t see.

The Hollywood star, 35, was on the sofa alongside Bruce Springsteen, Jeremy Allen White and Tessa Thompson to promote her new movie opposite Robert Pattinson, Die My Love.

There’s no doubt that the Oscar-winning actor has enjoyed an acclaimed career, from reaching towering heights of global fame as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games trilogy to her award-winning role in Silver Linings Playbook.

In recent years, as well as becoming a mother to two children, she has also dabbled in the comedy genre – appearing in Netflix movie Don’t Look Up and No Hard Feelings.

Discussing how radically her career has transformed over the past decade, Graham and Jennifer ended up having a slightly loaded exchange that didn’t quite make it to the final cut.

In the episode from Friday night, we do see Graham ask Jennifer: ‘Was there a time you wanted to step away and take the heat off being Jennifer Lawrence?’

‘Yeah, I made Covid happen,’ Jennifer joked about the small break from acting she took around 2020, pointing out that she had worked all her 20s.

Then, the Irish host said: ‘And then did you worry then maybe you wouldn’t be able to get back into it?’ to which Jennifer quipped: ‘Wow, you are really coming for me tonight!’.

Graham then replied: ‘Well, it’s just a human thing to wonder,’ as a source recounted to Metro.

This exchange was not aired in the BBC’s televised release, with the answer instead cutting straight to the actor saying: ‘I think I was at peace with that possibility happening.

‘I was like “this is a lot”. I think I would have been fine, well, no, I think I would have been upset, I don’t know.’

It’s far from the first time the show has encountered shaky moments that ultimately didn’t make it into the final edit.

Just the other week, an exchange between Taylor Swift and Jodie Turner-Smith in which Jodie asked the pop star if she planned to have children turned ‘uncomfortable’ quite quickly.

The conversation was promptly shut down by Graham and didn’t make it onto the TV version, according to an audience member.

Graham has been candid about difficult interviews he has had in the past.

During a recent appearance at the Henley Literary Festival, he opened up about Mark Wahlberg’s time on the show in 2013, in which the Hollywood star’s inebriated state made for a strange episode.

The BBC presenter recalled: ‘Mark Wahlberg was a weird one because when he arrived, he didn’t seem drunk.

‘He told me about his film, told me a couple of stories about stunts going wrong or whatever, and then it was only 15 minutes into the show when whatever the hell was in his system really took hold – and it was hell.’

He straddled Graham’s lap, interrupted other people’s stories, and completely messed up the red chair segment – to name a few incidents.

Meanwhile, Jennifer has been honest about her struggles with fame (at one point, she was even the highest-paid actress in the world).

Discussing her return to acting at the BFI London Film Festival in 2022, she said: ‘Between The Hunger Games coming out and winning the Oscar, I became such a commodity that I felt like every decision was a big, big group decision.

‘Because I had no idea what a huge movie star does next or what Katniss Everdeen should do after this … When I reflect now, I think of those following years as just kind of a loss of control and then a reaction to try to get [it] back.’

The Graham Norton Show is currently airing every Friday at 10:40pm on BBC One.
