The tragic news that Catherine O’Hara had passed away at the age of 71 has understandably caused many of her former co-stars and colleagues in Hollywood and the wider world of entertainment to pay tribute to the brilliant actress.
Among her many iconic television shows and movies, one of her most beloved is as Delia Deetz in the 1988 film “Beetlejuice.” So it is little surprise that many of those who worked with her in the Tim Burton-directed flick and its sequel have already paid tribute to O’Hara.Â
Michael Keaton
Michael Keaton had the titular role in the movie with his portrayal of the conniving bio-exorcist Betelgeuse.
âWe go back before the first âBeetlejuice,’â Keaton wrote on Instagram. âSheâs been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real life, true friend. This one hurts. Man am I gonna miss her.â
Keaton added, âThinking about Beau as well,â in reference to OâHaraâs husband Bo Welch.
Winona Ryder
Winona Ryder, who portrayed O’Hara’s daughter Lydia, posted a simple tribute to Instagram. The actor shared several photographs of herself with O’Hara on the two “Beetlejuice” films alongside a caption that included emojis of a wilting flower and a white heart.
Alec Baldwin
Alec Baldwin, who plays the ghostly Adam Maitland in the film, shared a statement with Page Six expressing his admiration for O’Hara’s talent and her other qualities.
He said, âCatherine OâHara was one of the greatest comic talents in the movie business. She had a quality that was all her own, and my sympathy goes out to Bo and their family.â
Geena Davis
Geena Davis played Alec Baldwin’s wife in “Beetlejuice”, who dies alongside him near the start of the film before returning as a ghost.Â
Through her non-profit institute, Davis wrote on Instagram, “I’m just heartbroken to learn of Catherine’s passing.”
“l’m one of the lucky people who got to observe a true comic genius in action. She gave us so much… but how can we not yearn for much, much more? Bless you, dear Catherine.”
Tim Burton
Tim Burton directed “Beetlejuice” and its sequel, working closely with O’Hara across both films.
Posting on Instagram with an image of the main cast together, he added a caption that reads, âCatherine, I love you. This picture shows how much light you gave to all of us. You were a special part of my life and after life.âÂ
Justin Theroux
Justin Theroux appeared in the sequel of the cult comedy film, playing Lydia’s ex Rory, a television producer.
He shared a picture to Instagram of O’Hara’s empty seat, presumably from the set of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”Â
He wrote, “Oh Catherine. You will be so missed.”
