The Boys fans have been left devastated ahead of the season 4 premiere this week after the show’s creator confirmed when the show will end for good.
The hit Amazon Prime superhero show follows a rag-tag bunch of vigilantes known as The Boys as they fight to uncover the corruption of super-powered individuals recognised as heroes by the general public.
They are managed by a powerful corporation known as Vought International which markets and monetises the Supes, most notably The Five and the maniacal head of the group Homelander.
It has proved a solid hit among fans, but all good things must come to an end (sob), with Eric Kripke taking to X ahead of season 4’s premiere on Thursday (June 13) confirming when the show will wrap up.
Posting a picture that appears to be a page from the season 4 script with lines blacked out, the bottom of the sheet reads: ‘See you for our final season, motherf****r!’
Kripke wrote: ‘The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!

Fans have taken to social media to celebrate the show’s run and the bittersweet news, sharing how ‘gutted’ they are it will end but ‘relieved’ it won’t be ‘dragged out.’
TheSpaceshipper wrote on X: ‘On the one hand, it already makes me sad to know that there will be an end (well, before a spin-off 😄).
‘On the other, it means we’ve only seen about half of it! Glad you were able to reach your goal.’
Justin_NC agreed, saying: ‘I hate to see it go but you made the right call. Always leave them wanting more. The Boys has been a blast so far, I can’t wait for the final 2 years of it. Good luck.’
‘All good things must eventually come to an end. But this one hurts,’ Austin Buholtz said, with others agreeing.
Many said it was a good thing to ‘end on a high’, despite being ‘devastated’ to say goodbye to their favourite characters.
‘If they don’t make a f*****g movie franchise, I’m going to lose it,’ _vikoda wrote.
Kripke confirmed to Variety that the final season is now in production and will begin filming in November. Just like season 4, it will be made up of eight episodes.
When asked how long he had known The Boys would end at season five, he said: ‘I would say near the beginning of writing Season 3, so years — years and years. And it took a minute for Amazon to agree, it took another minute to get them to clear it in all the channels so that we could finally announce it.

‘I’m thrilled to be able to announce it because it was just like a tiny bit frustrating to always answer, “I don’t know how long it’ll go! And maybe it’ll go forever! And who can say?” But the truth was, I just wasn’t allowed to say yet. You can imagine getting permission to finally announce something like that is a pretty complicated deal. So I’m glad to just finally get it out there.
‘I can feel more relaxed, everyone understands and they can go into Season 4 understanding the bigger shape of the huge five-season story. So I’m pleased to get it out there.’
He confirmed that the end of The Boys did not spell out the end for spin-off Gen V, which tells the story of budding supes at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting.
‘I think they can and should continue,’ he added. ‘The Boys story is about Butcher and Homelander and these two planets crashing into each other and this particular story doesn’t work without both of them. And you can only keep that going for so long.
‘So what I would say is, this particular story is ending, the Butcher-Homelander is ending. But there can be other stories and other corners of the universe. And hopefully, it’s vibrant and perverted enough to allow for those stories. So hopefully, Gen V continues, hopefully, a couple other things we have in development continue.’
The Boys season 4 premieres on Prime Video on June 13.
