The Chase star Paul Sinha ‘still doesn’t know’ which of his friends outed him

The Chase star Paul Sinha has opened up about when he was outed to his mum, revealing that he still doesn’t know which of his friends was behind it.

The TV star – who’s best-known for appearing on the ITV quiz series – has been married to his husband Oliver Levy since December 2019.

Paul, 54, told his family that he’s gay when he was 35 years old, previously explaining how nervous he was about sharing the truth with his ‘relatively conservative Bengali family’.

On the latest episode of Loose Women, the Sinnerman – as he’s known on The Chase – recalled how someone who he knows outed him to his mother before he had the chance to tell her himself.

‘It was an interesting process coming out to my mum. Somebody at a house party that we were hosting had a few too many drinks, rang up my home number and went, “Your son’s gay!” and put the phone down,’ he said, as members of the audience gasped.

‘Which was not how I wanted her to find out. I thought it’d be a more organic and sweet process. It was difficult to have the agency of the decision taken away from me.’

As the presenters on the Loose Women panel expressed sympathy for him over the situation, he continued: ‘I still don’t know who it was. I still don’t know which one of my friends it was.’

The quiz ace, who’s also a stand-up comedian, then jokingly added: ‘So we’re going to have a poll, give you the list of all my friends that it could’ve been.

‘I won’t say the bookies’ odds, because then Rishi Sunak’s team will put a side bet on it.’

The presenters and audience members burst into laughter and clapped at the swipe Paul made at the Prime Minister, after it emerged that Conservative election candidates were being investigated by the Gambling Commission over alleged bets placed on the General Election.

The Chase star then continued: ‘But I still don’t know who it was, and no one will admit it. But I’ve moved on.’

Presenter Brenda Edwards then said that Paul’s parents were ‘obviously very understanding’ when they found out that their son is gay, as he answered: ‘They were really understanding.’

‘But you wish that you had come out sooner with your husband?’ the Loose Women panelist asked.

Paul replied: ‘No I mean, life is what it is. Every time a door shuts, another one opens.’

In July 2021, Paul discussed how much support he’d received from his family over his marriage to Oliver, sharing: ‘The other day I had an argument with my husband in front of my dad, and my dad took his side.

‘That’s how much he loves my husband, he just took his side! I thought it was cute, I really did.’
