The Faithfuls on Celebrity Traitors have set a record – and it’s not good

The Faithful gang are officially historically shambolic, after they saw the backs of another three goodies in the latest episode of Celebrity Traitors.

The latest episode of the BBC One reality megahit saw the star-studded cast suggest they might have broken some sort of record, after they voted off Line of Duty’s Mark Bonnar in another misfire at the roundtable.

And they have – a bad one. This is the largest number of Faithful who have exited the Scottish castle before a Traitor.

Mark was then followed out the door by comedian Joe Wilkinson, who was murdered overnight by the dastardly trio of Alan Carr, Cat Burns and Jonathan Ross.

While the heat has finally started to turn up on the incognito Traitors at the final roundtable of this week’s episodes, the Faithful still failed to get the deed done and murdered yet another of their own in national treasure Stephen Fry.

The first series of Celebrity Traitors has seen an impressive audience of 10million tuning in – and it’s now proved historic on two fronts.

The first came when Wednesday night’s instalment of wink murder made show history, with a roundtable that ended in deadlock.

The celebrities gathered were split between voting off Line of Duty actor Mark and TV history buff David Olusoga, both of whom received the same number of votes from their fellow contestants.

Host Claudia Winkleman then announced that the roundtable absolutely had to end in a banishment, so they proceeded to a second round of voting with only Mark or David in the running, and both of them without their own vote.

After pleading their cases – during which David seemed slightly more convincing, but Mark looked the more dejected – the celebrities once again etched names onto their chalkboards, only for the votes to be split a second time around. This resulted in a box-related ‘game of chance’, in which poor Mark drew the shorter straw.

The second historic first came from Thursday night’s episode and is a bit of a slam dunk on the celebrity contestants, pointing to how incompetent they have been at rooting out the Traitors in their midst.

This series marks the first time that a whopping ten Faithful contestants have been ejected from the series – by either murder or banishment – before a single Traitor has walked out the door.

The closest to it came in the first civilian series of The Traitors, when eight Faithful met the same fate before the traitorous business student Alyssa Chan was banished in a roundtable.

With more episodes arriving next week, but only three in total left to go for this series, hopefully the Faithful will finally – finally! – catch a Traitor.

Joe Marler is certainly showing some appetite for it.

The Celebrity Traitors returns on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
