The Family Rob Reiner & Michele Singer Leave Behind: Meet Their Children

Beloved filmmaker and producer Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, have died. The couple was found dead in their home in Brentwood, California, on Sunday, December 14, TMZ reports. Reiner was 78, and Singer was 68.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the home around 3:30 p.m. PT, and although initial reports had not confirmed that Reiner and Singer had passed, the information has since been updated. A homicide investigation is also underway. The couple had been married since 1989 and shared three children: two sons, Nick and Jake, and a daughter, Romy. 

Jake was born in 1991, Nick in 1993, and Romy in 1997. Romy has been photographed multiple times attending awards and premieres with her parents. This includes the 30th Anniversary Screening of “When Harry Met Sally…” at the TCM Classic Film Festival in April 2019.

Reiner was also the father of actress Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted while married to actress Penny Marshall. Reiner and Marshall were married from 1971 until 1981.

The “A Few Good Men” filmmaker had previously spoken about his bond with Jake and their shared passion for baseball. It was a love that was passed down from Reiner’s own father, Carl Reiner. “My dad was a huge, huge baseball fan. He passed it onto me, and I passed it onto Jake,” Robert told People in a 2023 interview. 

His son, Jake, also shared his thoughts with the publication. “My dad and I talk daily about the Dodgers,” Jake said. “I’ve got a lot of opinions, and so does he.”

Nick has had a troubled life, and when he was 15, he went to rehab for the first time. In a 2016 interview with People, he discussed his experience with addiction and homelessness. “I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey, I was homeless in Texas,” he said. He also revealed how he “spent nights on the street.” He added, “It was not fun.”

The reason he was homeless was that he refused rehab. “If I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless,” he said.

Reiner and Singer had a beautiful relationship, and his life had inspired some of his work. “I’d been married for ten years. I’d been single for ten years, and I couldn’t figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody,” Reiner said in an interview with “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,” CNN reports. “That gave birth to ‘When Harry Met Sally.’ I hadn’t met anybody, so it was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking, and then walking away from each other.”
