The creators of The Inbetweeners have confirmed that the hit UK comedy will be making a sensational return to our screens.
Created by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, the Channel 4 sitcom aired from 2008 to 2010 before spawning two blockbuster films in 2011 and 2014.
It is now said that a new deal has been struck to revive its iconic characters Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), Neil (Blake Harrison) and Simon (Joe Thomas) for a fresh chapter after signing the deal with production giant Banijay UK.
In a joint statement, Iain and Damon said: ‘It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).’
Banijay’s chief executive, Patrick Holland, told The Sun he was ‘delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners’.
He explained: ‘They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audiences old and new.’

The company added that the deal ‘unlocks the rights and potential to bring The Inbetweeners back for new audiences across a range of platforms, including film, TV and stage’.
Another star tipped to return is Rivals actress Emily Atack, who played fan-favourite Charlotte Hinchcliffe.
If the reboot goes ahead, the deal would mark the first time in more than a decade that the full cast have reunited on screen.
Will The Inbetweeners reboot be a success?
Our TV reporter, Milo Pope, shares his thoughts…
The word ‘reboot’ is usually met with a great deal of fear. Often, it can be for good reason.
Fans of original TV series or movies are, rightfully so, very protective of the original product and later attempts to revive its characters or storyline can feel hackneyed and even lazy.
But in the case of The Inbetweeners, which last hit our screens more than a decade ago, news of a revival feels like an exciting next step in the show’s history.
Renown for its crass, cringe-inducing humour, the Channel 4 sitcom is still beloved today – and quoted daily – by its loyal fanbase.
To get the opportunity to see this iconic comedy series reimagined 17 years after it first aired is truly unique and exciting.
Don’t let other failed reboots scare you into thinking this will be a flop.
Just the thought alone of imagining what bizarre situation Neil or Jay have found themselves in as they transition into adulthood is funny in itself.
The show’s makers have a real opportunity here to explore deeper themes of parenthood and aging, among a treasure trove of hilarious topics.
If you’re a fan of the original series and movies, The Inbetweeners deserves a chance to prove it still has something to say. Judging by their previous success, I can only feel excitement.
Responding to the news online, fans shared their excitement about the potential reboot.
@CS11__ wrote on X: ‘Actually unbelievable to see this become a reality, the most surreal “Revival” I’ve ever seen.
‘The Inbetweeners show, those movies, they made my life growing up. I’m going to love every single moment of this.’
@MostCrucified called this ‘the greatest day of my life’ after the announcement.

However, some fans of the sitcom seemed less than impressed, and voiced some concerns about whether a reboot would taint the original show’s legacy.
@TJayyyy_1 said: ‘The Inbetweeners ended perfectly and had the right amount of episodes. Taking this risk well over 10 years later is brave
@WilliamWho27 added: ‘I used to love this show and I am excited to see it back.
When did the series originally air?
The Inbetweeners was made up three series, airing between May 2008 and October 2010 on E4.
All three series included six episodes.
Following the success of the TV show, The Inbetweeners Movie – showing the four friends on a lads’ holiday – was released in 2011.
Just three years later, The Inbetweeners 2 was then released as Will, Simon and Neil decide to join Jay on a holiday trip to Australia.
‘But if it will actually work I’m not sure. Obviously they will have to do it as them all being adults now and it will have a very different feel to it. I’m curious to see if it’ll work or not.’
In August last year, Joe – who played hapless romantic teenager Simon Cooper – teased a possible comeback on the Always Be Comedy podcast.
‘We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other and if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it,’ he said.
Joe continued: ‘I feel like we all still really like each other.
‘We’ve all been able to go away and get various monkeys off our backs, in terms of things that we felt we needed to do other than The Inbetweeners to prove something to ourselves.’
All episodes of The Inbetweeners are available to stream on Channel 4.
