Period drama fans have been stunned by the trailer for a new British film set in the 1930s and channelling Downton Abbey – if it featured farting, swearing and butlers in the buff.

From the pens of Jimmy Carr, his brother Patrick Carr and UK comedy writing trio Andrew Dawson, Steve Dawson and Tim Inman (That Mitchell and Webb Look, The Peter Serafinowicz Show), comes Fackham Hall.

While it might appear incredibly posh and proper on the surface, this glorious spoof describes itself as ‘if Downton Abbey and Airplane! had a love child born with a silver spoon up its a**e’.

Starring the likes of Damian Lewis, Harry Potter actor Tom Felton, Anna Maxwell Martin, Katherine Waterston, Thomasin McKenzie, Tom Goodman-Hill and Carr, it’s an ensemble featuring some fine British talent.

Fackham Hall sees lovable pick-pocket Eric (Ben Radcliffe) move into the grand mansion as staff, where he strikes up a forbidden romance with Rose (McKenzie), the daughter of Lord and Lady Davenport (Lewis and Waterston).

But his rival in love is Archibald (Felton) and all too soon there’s a shocking murder while the Davenports are trying to celebrate the wedding of their eldest daughter (Emma Laird) to the ‘right’ cousin.

Fitting for a family with the motto ‘incestus ad infinitum’ (incest forever) emblazoned on their gates.

The trailer also kicks off with a dead deer falling on a man, so it’s clear from the start what we’re in for with this whodunit.

Sight gags and pratfalls continue, with a servant falling into a trap door, Goodman-Hill’s detective removing his fake moustache only to reveal another one underneath and a person in a panda suit lurking in plain sight.

There’s also servants topping up the champagne glasses of small children and Sue Johnston’s very obvious ‘C-bomb’ being handily drowned out by a car horn.

And did I mention a picture of two women with the names Peacock and Sleater being ripped vertically down the middle, removing the first few letters of each name? (Give yourself a minute.)

But an alternate cut for the film’s trailer shared by Bleecker Street on Instagram goes even further, showing a bike being parked between someone’s bum cheeks and a trouser-covered erection in reaction to the erotic book ‘One Shade of Grey’.

Outspoken comedian Carr, playing the local vicar, also displays a knack for skipping over punctuation, therefore pronouncing that God is ‘shining a light for these two a**eholes’ at their wedding, before correcting himself: ‘He’s shining a light for these two. Our souls are internally in his debt.’

And yes, there’s a kissing choirboys joke from his character in another trailer edit.

‘”From the studio that watched the first two seasons of downtown Abbey” 😂 yah know what – five stars just for that,’ joked Allison Perkins in the comments.

‘One of the funniest trailer I’ve seen in years!’ proclaimed another fan, while S.A. Hughes added: ‘This looks utterly hysterical!!’

‘This is hilarious. As someone who loves period films I can’t wait!’ shared @edenslove10 as @shawnwick2328 celebrated: ‘Between this and The Naked Gun reboot this year, parody is coming back with a vengeance….in a great way.’

‘Jimmy Carr as the priest? Oh this is gonna be brutal!’ said @ArwenUndomiel406 as Cassie Ryan admitted: ‘Clever title – I didn’t see the joke til after I watched the trailer!’

It was also described as a ‘funnier Knives Out version’.

Fackham Hall has been lined up for a December release in America but sadly for UK viewers, no official release date has been announced yet.

Fackham Hall will be released in US cinemas on December 5. It is yet to receive a UK release date.
