Ryan Dorsey is marking a milestone moment for his son with the late Naya Rivera.
The actor shared a heartfelt Instagram post on Sept. 29 to celebrate Josey Hollis Dorseyâs 10th birthday. Josey, the only child of the former “Glee” star and her ex-husband, posed in photos with balloons, necklaces, a crown, and cake on his face as his father reflected on how quickly the past decade has gone by.

“120 months⦠521.78 weeks, 3,652 days gone by in a flashâ¦.ð¥¹,” Dorsey, 42, captioned the post. “Our sweet baby boy @joseydorsey is 10âï¸â£ï¸. I cannot believe how fast youâve become the strong, curious, funny, bright and intelligent 10 year old that you are today.”
He added: “I love you more than all the stars ⨠in the galaxy. Iâm so proud to be your Dad, my guyâ¼ï¸â£ï¸â£ï¸.”
Naya Riveraâs Lasting Impact on Son Josey & Ryan Dorsey
Rivera and Dorsey married in 2014 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, only three months after the actress ended her engagement to rapper Big Sean. They divorced in 2016, when Josey was just 14 months old.
Rivera passed away in 2020 at age 33 after drowning while swimming with then-4-year-old Josey in Lake Piru, located in Ventura County, California. Dorsey has been open about his sonâs grief and the difficulties of navigating life after Riveraâs loss.
Earlier this year, Dorsey told People that Josey has struggled watching his mom on screen, especially in “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,” released in 2011.
“He sat there and he watched the whole movie, and you could see his eyes welling up a little bit,” Dorsey said. “But he’s a strong boy, and he has a lot of content and episodes. His mom will live forever. I think that’s a silver lining of this terrible situation.”

The single father also revealed that one way he keeps Riveraâs spirit alive is by throwing birthday parties that honor her love of celebrations.
“I try to do good by her by throwing great birthday parties,” Dorsey said in March. “I’ll never be able to do it the way she would do things, but I think I’ve done a decent job for a couple. For number 10, I’m going to throw a blowout.”
He added, “I hope to make her proud by throwing parties like she used to throw for him as he gets older.”
Alongside birthday festivities, Dorsey said he and Josey often revisit a memory book they created together, filled with photos of Rivera. The book serves as a way for Josey to stay close to his mother, especially during the holidays.
“We made this book of memories for Josey that sits by his bed, and during the holidays he was crying looking at it,” Dorsey shared. “You can only give him a hug and tell him, ‘I know, life is not fair. Bad things happen and there’s no reason for it, and you just have to do your best to be a good person.’ It’s hard trying to explain things that you can’t really make sense of no matter what age you are.”
