One of the greatest movies of all-time has been immortalised in Lego and this time you’re not going to need a bigger boat.
There have been official Lego sets based on everything from Star Wars to Lord of the Rings but, for obvious reasons, they generally avoid anything based on violent or adult-orientated films
That’s despite the fact that recent years have seen increasingly more sets aimed at adults, but Jaws is actually a PG in the US (later Steven Spielberg movies such as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Gremlins were instrumental in introducing the PG-13 rating) and, like Dune – which also got a Lego set, the film is only a 12 in the UK.
The set you see here is also part of Lego Ideas, which means it was originally suggested by a fan, all of which has given Lego the excuse they need to recreate the Orca boat, along with Chief Brody, Hooper, Quint, and Bruce the shark.
Originally released in 1975, Jaws was the original summer blockbuster and, together with Star Wars a couple of years later, helped cement the modern concept of mainstream moviemaking and make Spielberg the world’s most famous director.
Speaking of which, a minifigure of Spielberg appears in the special JAWS…in a Jiffy 90-second video below, which briefly retells the plot of the movie for anyone unlucky enough never to have seen it.
The Lego Ideas concept involves fans designing their own models and then posting them on the website for others to vote on. Once they get enough votes Lego considers them for the possibility of turning into a commerical set, for which the creator gets a small percentage of the profits.
In this case, Lego fan Johnny Campbell was the one who had his design chosen, which Lego then modified to create the 1,497 brick model you see here.

The Orca has a removable roof, adjustable boom and rigging, and lots of movie-accurate accessories, including a revolver, fishing rod, harpoon, and the iconic yellow barrels that were attached to the shark (the model of which was nicknamed ‘Bruce’ by the film crew).
The whole set is highly customisable though, as while there’s a brick-built base, complete with Lego waves, you can also attach the back half of the shark to the front and display it as a separate, complete model.
‘Jaws is my favourite movie of all-time, so I really wanted to recreate it in Lego bricks. Lego building has always been a part of my life in some shape or form but in order to get all of the finer details, I actually freeze-framed Jaws as I watched it so that I could catch a glimpse of the finer details taking notes as I went along,’ says Campbell.
‘It is just mind-blowing that my design is now an official Lego set. I can’t wait to stand in a Lego shop looking at the shelves and seeing a set that I have been involved with and watching someone buying it. It’s every Lego fan’s dream!’
The set costs £129.99 in the UK and will be available from Lego stores and the Lego website from August 6.
