The Office fans have been left surprised and delighted as Oscar Martinez makes a return in the new spin-off – The Paper.
The Office may have ended 12 years ago, but in the era of remakes and reboots, it’s no surprise a spin-off is set to come out with a whole new host of kooky characters.
The synopsis for the mockumentary-style show explains: ‘The series follows the Dunder Mifflin documentary crew as they focus on a dying Midwestern newspaper & its reporters.’
As the new trailer shows, the comedy stars Black Mirror actor Domhnall Gleeson as the plucky new editor-in-chief Ned Sampson, who is saddled with seven poorer-than-poor local news reporters behind the Toledo Truth Teller.
The fresh cast also includes White Lotus favourite Sabrina Impacciatore, US star Melvin Gregg and comedian Tim Key.
One character fans weren’t expecting, however, was the return of Oscar (portrayed by Oscar Nunez), who seems to have gone from bottom-of-the-barrel job to… even more bottom-of-the-barrel job.

He appears at the very end of the trailer – filled with quips about the dying media industry – as he takes a jab at the film crew.
‘Not again, I’m not agreeing to any of this. I will make this unusable,’ he says as he swears to the camera.
Sceptical fans seem to have been won over by his appearance and are ready to give the show a try.
‘My baddie is back, love Oscar,’ babylonstargirl wrote on X.
‘Oscar is back!!!’ aewliquid added.
‘What’s Oscar doing here?? I haven’t seen the ending of the office in a while, does he go off to work for a newspaper??’ Tanner_Slavin asked.
‘Wasn’t feeling it .. then I saw Oscar,’ ehimgood shared.
‘I hate the fact that I don’t hate this. Also Oscar at the end is hilarious,’ seminole4life22 said.
‘I wasn’t totally sold until the reveal at the end. I’ll give it a shot,’ crawf34 echoed.
‘OSCAR jsjsks I’m going to give it a chance especially for Domhnall Gleeson, I missed his face,’ melina declared.

Fans were equally excited to see the About Time star at the helm of the show.
‘I’m a Domhall Gleeson believer since About Time so I might tune in…,’ royden ogletree posted.
‘Domhnall Gleeson and Tim Key give me hope,’ theamazingchi added.
‘GLEESON HIVE RISE ITS OUR TIME’ madeline shared.
And there is more general excitement with Chris Evans saying it ‘should be fun’ and Caleb Smith saying he was ‘cautiously optimistic’.

The Irish actor has big shoes to fill with The Office’s mammoth legacy – especially with beloved characters like Steve Carell’s Michael Scott and Ricky Gervais’s David Brent.
But Gleeson feels confident Ned will carve out his own reputation among fans.
He told People: ‘I don’t think my characters like Michael Scott at all. I think if you’re trying to compete with what Steve did or with what Ricky Gervais did, I think it would be a massive mistake.
‘They are geniuses who are incredible in loads of different ways. We made a whole new character. And it’s a whole new sort of set up, but I hope people will find a reason to love him as well, just in a different way than they did the guys before.’
The Paper premieres on Sky and NOW in the UK on Thursday, September 4.
