The Peacock mockumentary series “The Paper,” a spinoff of the hit NBC show “The Office,” officially has a premiere date this fall.

After much anticipation, fans no longer have to wait, as the follow-up to “The Office” will debut its first four episodes on September 4. From there, two new episodes will be released every Thursday through September 25.

Fans of “The Office” have been excited about this follow-up, but what will the new show focus on? In the logline from NBC, it states, “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”

As far as the cast goes, it consists of Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. In addition, we will see a familiar face on the screen, as Oscar Nuñez will be reprising his role from “The Office.”

“The Paper,” like its iconic predecessor, will follow the silly trials and turmoils of a goofball office staff in a different kind of “paper” business than we saw on “The Office.” The new show will take place in the offices of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a storied newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.

A trailer was played at the upfronts for NBCUniversal, which started with the documentary crew making their way around the room. It showed us that Oscar (Nuñez) is now working for the newspaper as their accountant, and he isn’t happy to see the doc crew again. In addition, Impacciatore will be playing the managing editor of the newspaper, and Gleeson will play an idealistic new employee.

For this new show, it was co-created by Greg Daniels, who developed “The Office” for American television, and Michael Koman. Daniels and Koman will also be serving as executive producers along with “The Office” creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, as well as Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.

Will We See Any Other Ex-Dunder Mifflin Employees on the Spinoff?

Besides the return of Nuñez, “The Office” fans have been wondering if they will see any other “Office” alums pop up on the show. Yes, there will be other ex-Dunder Mifflin employees popping in for the new show.

To start, we will see Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer, who cohosted the “Office Ladies” rewatch podcast, making an appearance. During an appearance on the “Today Show” back in April, Kinsey said, “We were invited by Greg. We showed up on set, and not only was Oscar there, but so many of our former crew members, too. The crew really was like our extended family, and we’ve stayed close over the years.”

While there is no confirmation of any other “Office” stars making guest appearances, how can you do a spinoff of “The Office” and not include Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) or Michael Scott (Steve Carell)?
