The Special Moment Rob Reiner Celebrated with His Son That Brought Him to Tears

There has been an outpouring of love for Tracy Reiner, Romy Reiner, and Jake Reiner following the tragic events on Sunday, December 14. Rob Reiner and Michele Singer were found dead at their Brentwood, California home. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and charged with their murders, People reports. 

Each of Rob and Michele’s children shared a unique bond with their parents, which has been explored more since their deaths. One of the ways that Rob and Jake bonded was through their love of baseball.

Jake Reiner is the couple’s oldest son, born in 1991. Growing up, he and his father shared many memories through baseball. They attended games, they discussed their views, and there was one event that left them visibly emotional. 

In a 2023 interview with People, Rob reflected on his trip with his son to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

“We sat down in this theater there and they start showing the history of when Black players first came into the league. I’m sitting there next to Jake, and I’m just tearing up,” Rob said. “The lights come up, and we hear that this exhibit is new. It’s designed to make a grown man cry. I said, ‘Wow. You succeeded because the whole idea of fathers passing the game down to their sons was beautiful and personal. My dad passed it to me, and now I’m sitting here passing it to him.”

Jake is a co-host of the podcast “The Incline: Dodgers Podcast.” A podcast that lets him share his thoughts and love for the sport. After the news of his parents’ passing, the podcast made a statement on Instagram on Monday, December 15.

“We are deeply saddened for the loss of Rob and Michele Reiner,” the statement reads. “Words can’t describe what the Reiner family is going through right now. Please respect their privacy at this time. We are grateful for their support of the show over the years.”

Jake Reiner Followed in His Father’s Footsteps

The father and son shared other similarities as well. Jake is an actor, leaving behind a career in the newsroom to pursue a passion that was arguably in his blood, passed down through his father and his grandfather, Carl Reiner.  Speaking about his career change in an interview with the Houston Chronicle in 2018, he revealed that acting had been his calling. 

“I’ve always had a passion for acting and performing,” he said. “When I was growing up in LA, and in high school there, I was in all the plays and the musicals. I took improv classes, took stand-up comedy classes, and I was always wanting to perform.”
