The Voice US winner Jason ‘Sundance’ Head has been rushed to hospital after shooting himself in the stomach.
The country singer, 46, is best known for winning season 11 of the NBC reality singing series in 2016.
This week he was hunting in the woods at his ranch in Texas when the shocking accident unfolded.
Around 4pm local time on Friday he received a bullet to the stomach and was then airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.
After being seen to, the singer’s wife Misty Head then shared an update on the singer’s Facebook page, saying he was ‘in good spirits considering the last several hours’.
‘We have arrived at hospital and just now physically put my eyes on him and heard his sweet voice. Kids are in with him now. Prayers answered as no internal damage was done by the bullet. Thank you all for the prayers,’ she posted.

Going on to explain what happened, Misty wrote that her husband was standing outside his truck to reach in and grab the gun when it came out of its holster, hit the exterior of the Jeep ‘just right and went off’.
‘Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet dislodging. I thought he called 911 he didn’t – he put his hands in pocket for phone immediately after getting hit but phone wasn’t there just filled with blood so he took off down the driveway out to the main road to flag a car down for help.’
She said it took about ’10 cars later’ for someone to turn around, help and call 911.

Misty, who said her husband was ‘heavily medicated at the moment’ was ‘so lucky and grateful to be alive’.
She went on to thank the ‘Good Samaritan who stopped and helped and the fast response by life flight and the doctors’.
Earlier in the day Misty had shared on social media that the doctor told her the bullet had gone in above her husband’s navel and lodged in his abdominal wall, missing all his vital organs.
It meant he would not require surgery as the decision had been made to not remove the bullet.

‘Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. Bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers,’ she added.
Sundance, the son of American singer Roy Head, was a semi-finalist on the sixth season of American Idol in 2007 but was eliminated one week before the finals.
During his time on The Voice, he was part of Team Blake Shelton and has since gone on to release four albums, most recently 2022’s Starting Again.
He also has nine shows across Texas lined up in December.
