Norman Reedus has lead The Walking Dead tributes to beloved cast member, Seven.

The Walking Dead announced the dog which played Daryl Dixon’s aptly named pet, Dog, had died.

Confirming the news on the show’s Instagram account, The Walking Dead shared a photo of the Belgian Shephard with the caption: ‘Rest in peace, Seven. #TWD’s best boy.’

Reedus paid his own tribute with a picture from set, adding: ‘Gonna miss you seven.’

He also shared a string of photos with the dog and wrote: ‘Best TV buddy ever.’

A performer worked with Seven on a press tour for The Walking Dead commented: ‘I was a zombie actor. I was told that he was a working dog and wouldn’t want me to pet him.

‘In between performances, he would nudge my twisted zombie hand with his nose. He indeed wanted some pets! He was the goodest boy!’

Angela Kang, a former showrunner on The Walking Dead, reshared the post with a crying face emoji.

Reedus begged for Daryl to have a canine companion for a long time before producers conceded and in the ninth season he finally got his wish.

Daryl adopted Dog as his own after the previous owner, Leah – Daryl’s love interest – left him behind.

In 2018, Reedus told Comicbook.com: ‘We just did a scene the other day that ended up being the opposite of what it was supposed to be because the dog just wanted to do something else, and it came out so much better.

‘He’ll probably be running the show. It’s great! I love it. He loves me, too.’

The Walking Dead ended in 2022 after a staggering 11 seasons.

In its wake, Reedus is about to star in the long-awaited Daryl spin-off series alongside Carol star Melissa McBride, titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live recently reunited lead characters Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) after they were separated in season 9.
