Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus Send Heartfelt Condolences to Dolly Parton After Husband Carl Dean’s Death

Billy Ray Cyrus and his ex-wife Tish Cyrus both commented on Dolly Parton’s Instagram post announcing the death of her husband, Carl Dean, on March 3. Dean died at the age of 82.

“Sending you all of my love @dollyparton!,” Billy Ray Cyrus wrote.

“Love you Dolly ❤️,” Tish Cyrus commented.

Parton shared a statement on her Instagram, informing the public that Dean had passed away and asked the public for privacy.

“Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He was survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie,” the statement read. “The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.”

It also included a direct comment from Parton.

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy,” the singer said.

Parton and Billy Ray Cyrus have been close for a long time, and the “Jolene” singer is even the godmother of his daughter, Miley.

Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton Are Actually Related

During an interview with “Access Hollywood” in September 2024, Parton discovered that she is related to Miley Cyrus. They are seventh cousins once removed.

“Is that true?! That’s amazing!,” Parton exclaimed when given the findings from Ancestry.com.

“We’re so close, Miley and I, that I would have thought we’d be at least third cousins 10 times removed. And I’m sure she’ll get a kick out of that,” the singer added. “But it doesn’t surprise me because she does feel like family.”

Carl Dean Inspired One of Dolly Parton’s Biggest Hits

“I’m beggin’ of you, please don’t take my man.”

That is a line from Parton’s hit song “Jolene” that was released in 1973. And it turns out, that it all stemmed from something that happened with her husband, Carl Dean.

During an interview with NPR in 2008, Parton revealed that she was singing about a bank teller who was very clearly flirting with Dean.

“She got this terrible crush on my husband,” Parton explained. “And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us — when I was saying, ‘Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.’ So it’s really an innocent song all around, but sounds like a dreadful one.”
