‘Today’ Co-Host Sheinelle Jones Gets Trapped on NYC Train After Falling Asleep: VIDEO

Sheinelle Jones

Sheinelle Jones, co-host of “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,” revealed on the Monday, April 6, episode that she was recently injured after getting stuck on a pitch-black train in New York City.

Jones, 47, explained how she was traveling back home from Philadelphia when she arrived at the New York Moynahan Train Station around 10:00 PM. However, she was asleep when the train made its final stop at her station. Jones said that when she woke up, it was 1:20 AM, over three hours past her arrival time.

Alone and afraid, the talk show host walked up and down the empty train as she attempted to pry the doors open.

Sheinelle Jones Says Train Entrapment Was a ‘Nightmare’

“I got a little sleepy because I’d had a long day, and I fell asleep,” she shared. “You stop moving, but you feel like, you know, it’s probably because it’s not time and we’re not in Moynahan; we’re not in New York City.”

Fellow co-host Jenna Bush Hager interrupted Jones to ask, “So you’d been asleep for two hours underground?”

Jones responded, “For two hours in the depths of New York City — let me tell you something — there was no one there,” adding that the moment was a “nightmare.”

The journalist said she realized she was actually stuck after she went in search of a conductor. When she couldn’t find a single person in any of the carriages, it finally hit her that she had been left alone inside the locked train.

“I thought, ‘No problem, I’ll just push the exit thing.’ So I go over to the door. I’m like, ‘There’s a red button,’ oh, it’s not opening. Then I try to pry the door open. And then it hits me after a few minutes, like, oh, I’m stuck on the train,” she elaborated.

Jones told Hager and the audience that after injuring her finger and feeling deeply panicked, she finally decided to call 9-1-1.

“You know how sometimes you hear 9-1-1 calls? I was so worried that you guys would hear this call, so I was like, ‘Hi, this is weird,’” Jones explained. “She goes, ‘Okay, stay right there,’ which, where else am I going? Then I felt like a toddler. I was like, ‘Will you stay on the phone with me?’”

When she was finally freed by two police officers, Jones said she made her way home to her three teenage children, who hardly noticed her late arrival time.

“I got home, and I thought it was gonna be like, ‘Mommy, where have you been?’” she shared. “They were up playing video games, like, ‘Hey, Mom!’”
