Sheinelle Jones, co-host of âTODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,â revealed on the Monday, April 6, episode that she was recently injured after getting stuck on a pitch-black train in New York City.
Jones, 47, explained how she was traveling back home from Philadelphia when she arrived at the New York Moynahan Train Station around 10:00 PM. However, she was asleep when the train made its final stop at her station. Jones said that when she woke up, it was 1:20 AM, over three hours past her arrival time.
Alone and afraid, the talk show host walked up and down the empty train as she attempted to pry the doors open.
Sheinelle Jones Says Train Entrapment Was a âNightmareâ
âI got a little sleepy because Iâd had a long day, and I fell asleep,â she shared. âYou stop moving, but you feel like, you know, itâs probably because itâs not time and weâre not in Moynahan; weâre not in New York City.â
Fellow co-host Jenna Bush Hager interrupted Jones to ask, âSo youâd been asleep for two hours underground?â
Jones responded, âFor two hours in the depths of New York City â let me tell you something â there was no one there,â adding that the moment was a ânightmare.âÂ
The journalist said she realized she was actually stuck after she went in search of a conductor. When she couldnât find a single person in any of the carriages, it finally hit her that she had been left alone inside the locked train.
âI thought, âNo problem, Iâll just push the exit thing.â So I go over to the door. Iâm like, âThereâs a red button,â oh, itâs not opening. Then I try to pry the door open. And then it hits me after a few minutes, like, oh, Iâm stuck on the train,â she elaborated.
Sheinelle Jones Calls 9-1-1 to Help Her Off Locked Train
GettyJones told Hager and the audience that after injuring her finger and feeling deeply panicked, she finally decided to call 9-1-1.
âYou know how sometimes you hear 9-1-1 calls? I was so worried that you guys would hear this call, so I was like, âHi, this is weird,ââ Jones explained. âShe goes, âOkay, stay right there,â which, where else am I going? Then I felt like a toddler. I was like, âWill you stay on the phone with me?ââ
When she was finally freed by two police officers, Jones said she made her way home to her three teenage children, who hardly noticed her late arrival time.
âI got home, and I thought it was gonna be like, âMommy, where have you been?â” she shared. âThey were up playing video games, like, âHey, Mom!â”
