<p id=”par-2_57″>President Donald Trump pardoned reality stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, leading to their early prison release. Now, the couple is speaking out about their lived experience behind bars. In an exclusive clip from <a href=”https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/chrisley-family-sit-down-with-lara-trump-todd-talks-prison-advocacy/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Us Weekly</a> of the couple’s <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/todd-chrisley-reveals-prayed-night-prison-1st-tv-appearance-pardoning.html/”>upcoming interview on <em>My View with</em> <em>Lara Trump</em></a>, Todd and Julie addressed the broken prison system in the U.S. </p>
<p id=”par-3_69″>“We stepped out of prison, we walked into a home, started filming immediately, and new cars were ordered, and we’re looking for houses, and we’re doing all the things that we need to be doing,” Todd explained. “But all of these men and women don’t get to do that. When they come out, they don’t have a home to go to. They don’t have money to go buy food.”</p>
<p id=”par-4_6″>“They don’t have support,” Julie added.</p>
<p id=”par-5_22″>Todd added that the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate “than anywhere else in the world,” along with “the highest recidivism rate.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_30″>“That should tell you that what we’re doing is not working,” he continued. “There is no accountability for the $8.2 billion that’s dumped into the Bureau of Prisons every year.”</p>
<p id=”par-7_47″>Todd shared a message with the people he met in prison. “Accountability is coming,” he promised. “So, for all of my brothers that I left behind, I didn’t leave you behind. I’m coming for you. It’s just taking me a little bit longer to get to you.”</p>

During his brief conversation with his daughter, he discussed the broken prison system. </p>
<p id=”par-9_78″>“I believe in prison!” Todd said. “I’m not sitting here saying to abolish prisons. But, at the end of the day, we incarcerate more individuals in the United States of America than any other country in the world. We then have the highest recidivism rate of anyone else in the world. So, if we are the No. 1 country of incarceration, should we not be the No. 1 country in lowering recidivism? But, yet, we’ve got the highest.”</p>

<p id=”par-10_41″>After Todd and Julie Chrisley’s pardon, Todd spoke about his release during a news conference. Todd thanked the president for the pardon and condemned the legal system for putting him behind bars for a crime he alleges he did not commit.</p>
<p id=”par-11_40″>“You’re placed in a position as a defendant to either bow down and kiss the a** of the Department of Justice and accept responsibility for things that you did not do in order to avoid a stronger sentence,” he said.</p>
<p id=”par-12_26″>Savannah Chrisley also spoke out about “fighting” for her parents’ freedom. “I had to fight, and I was relentless, and that’s how it happened,” she said.</p>
