Tom Cruise is no stranger to danger, and now, heâs got another Guinness World Record to prove it. While filming âMission: Impossible â The Final Reckoningâ, the actor pulled off a jaw-dropping feat: jumping out of a helicopter with a flaming parachute 16 times.

The intense stunt, captured for the eighth installment of the blockbuster franchise, earned him a brand-new Guinness title. And like always, Cruise did it all himself.
Tom Cruiseâs Fiery Stunt That Broke a World Record
Before the big reveal, Cruise shared a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot. He captioned it simply: âLight the fuse.â
In the clip, he explains just how risky the jump was:
âIf this is twisted while itâs burning, Iâm going to be spinning and burnt. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds,â Cruise says before one of the jumps.
âWeâre going to be real smart. Iâm not saying be risky. We donât take risks, obviously.â
The fiery scene was filmed in South Africaâs Drakensberg Mountains. The crew flew him to a minimum altitude of 7,500 feet before each drop. His parachute, soaked in fuel, would ignite in mid-air. Cruise had to release the burning chute and deploy a backup â all while falling.
Guinness Praises Cruiseâs Fearlessness
Guinness World Records was quick to praise the 61-year-oldâs dedication to authenticity. âTom doesn’t just play action heroes â he is an action hero!â said Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records.
âA large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It’s an honour to be able to recognize his utter fearlessness with this new Guinness World Records title.â
Cruiseâs History of Breaking Records
This latest title isnât Tomâs first Guinness honor. He once held the world record for the most extended on-screen breath hold, clocking in at six minutes during “Mission: Impossible â Rogue Nation.”
That was later broken by Kate Winslet, who held hers for over seven minutes while filming “Avatar: The Way of Water”.
Cruise was also in Eyes Wide Shut, the Stanley Kubrick film that holds the record for the longest continuous film shoot â a whopping 400 days.
In April 2024, Cruise earned yet another Guinness World Record: most consecutive $100 million-grossing films. Starting in 2012, heâs had 11 back-to-back box office hits. Cruiseâs streak of box office hits includes “Jack Reacher”, “Oblivion”, “Edge of Tomorrow”, “Mission: Impossible â Rogue Nation”, “The Mummy”, “Top Gun: Maverick”, and “Dead Reckoning”.
“Mission: Impossible â The Final Reckoning” is now in theaters and already thrilling audiences worldwide.
Whether this is Cruiseâs final ride as Ethan Hunt remains to be seen, but if it is, heâs going out with one epic jump.
