Rebecca De Mornay still thinks fondly of her ex Tom Cruise.
During a recent interview with Page Six, De Mornay said that she is “really proud” of the actor.
De Mornay and Cruise co-starred in teen comedy “Risky Business” in 1983, which kick-started their respective careers. The two started dating while filming the project, and went on to date for over two years after its release.
âHe is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is,â De Mornay told the outlet of Cruise’s success today. âIâm really, really proud of knowing him from when we were in the suburbs of Chicago, and knowing what he wanted and where it is now.â
De Mornay Compared Herself and Cruise To A ‘Minor Chord’ And A ‘Major Chord’

After “Risky Business,” Cruise’s career took off. The A-lister has led multiple film franchises over the past few decades, such as “Top Gun” and “Mission: Impossible.”
Last month, “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski confirmed that a third “Top Gun” film is in the writing process during an interview with British GQ.
2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick” was a massive financial and critical success, and became Cruise’s highest-grossing film ever. While this year’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” was only the franchise’s fourth-highest grossing film, it still had the best opening weekend of any “Mission: Impossible” movie.
âWe started this together and look what he did with it,â De Mornay said.
Meanwhile, De Mornay decided to keep her career more low-key. After “Risky Business,” she took on grittier roles – including a railway worker in “Runaway Train” and a sinister nanny in “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.”
De Mornay Stars In New Indie Thriller ‘Saint Clare’
The actress, 65, makes an appearance in “Saint Clare,” which released in theaters and digitally on July 18. The film stars Bella Thorne, who plays a young serial killer who targets predatory men, spurred on by mysterious voices.
âItâs very rare that I read scripts about a female serial killer whoâs obsessed with Joan of Arc, which I thought was just brilliant,” De Mornay told Page Six about why she agreed to take on the role.
âI just wanted to be a support to this project,â she continued.
