The wait is over! What wait, you might ask? The one to find out exactly what mode of transport Idris Elba is about to be hijacked on for a second time around.

The in-real-time Apple TV drama Hijack, starring The Wire legend Elba as an unlikely corporate negotiator turned hero of public transport, will be back for seconds early next year.

When the renewal news came in, there was much debate over how the show could return, given that it’s a fairly open-and-shut premise.

The first season saw Elba’s businessman Sam Nelson board a Dubai to London flight, carrying nothing but some recently-purchased jewellery for his ex, with little to do on board but watch the slow progress of the flight map.

But that was rudely interrupted when said flight KA29 was hijacked by a nefarious group on board. Nelson sprang into action to make sure the plane somehow landed safely.

For those who didn’t watch, spoilers, but Nelson did indeed help carry that plane to safety – although it did look touch-and-go for a stretch. The Apple TV jeopardy is set to return, albeit on another mode of transport.

In what’s already been billed as a ‘thrilling’ second season, Hijack is going from plane to train. Specifically, a Berlin underground train, which is taken hostage with commuters and Nelson aboard.

The new teaser clip shows the brooding leading man standing on the platform as the fateful doors open in front of him.

Much like in the first season, this second will see the authorities at ground level scrambling to save the lives of those imperilled, while Nelson sits at the crisis epicentre on board, where ‘one wrong decision could spell disaster’.

Created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, the eight-episode second season is slated for a two-episode premiere on January 14, 2026, followed by a one-episode-per-week release schedule.

Alongside Elba, the likes of Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Archie Panjabi will be returning for the second season. Plus, there are some exciting cast additions, including Mr Bates vs The Post Office star Toby Jones.

From the teaser clip posted to YouTube, it’s clear fans of the first season – which was billed as ‘incredible’ by Google reviewer Angel Jones – are hugely excited for the show’s return.

Taking to the comments section, Ollie Cook wrote: ‘I actually can’t wait. I loved the first season.’

‘I’m so ready! I watched the first season in one day!! Got my bestie to watch & she binged it in one day too!’ gushed esparra1014.

‘I’ve been waiting for them to announce this FOREVER – definitely excited for the new season!’ added articnight240 in the comments section.

There’s also plenty of commentary about where Nelson might be off to next, with theories including a cruise ship or even a bus which can’t go below a certain speed. (See: 1994’s action thriller Speed.)
